CIBC's Hoosier Coalmine Classic Linsence Trial w/pics added

I want to say thanks to all that came. We had a little more of a problem of finding game this year. Most rabbits were located within the usual 3 to 5 minutes but I heard there was at least one time it required 15. Sorry for the inconvenience! In other words, game was plentiful as usual.
We had 82 entries which is down 10 from last year. Most people I’ve talked to who were not coming said it was due to the near record dry conditions in the area and the currently high heat. My truck’s temperature read out said 83 degrees on Sunday and it seemed rather humid to me as well. I wouldn‘t be surprised if the economy had some effect as well. For example, we reduced the number of dogs we owned due to the economy so we entered only 3 this year compared to 6 last year. Another participant that I won’t mention here shown up with only one dog this year compared to 7 last year as well. I heard this story repeated a few time at this trial.
Another disadvantage for running conditions was the thickness of the cover. One of the owner’s of the private property that we run on stated to me that the cover was thicker and taller than normal due to the extremely wet spring and early summer. But believe it or not in these conditions all judges still said they saw more than enough and got plenty of scoring, they just had to work a little harder for it.
Most classes were finished by 3:20 PM. For some odd reason though the 15” females went in to overtime on Saturday and finished at dusk. (I think one of the judges of this class took it to OT due to the fact that he needed to burn some time till we had our Advance Judging Seminar at 6:00 PM.)
All you 15” male guys out there better watch out! There’s a new sheriff in town. The winner of that class, Kimbrel’s Kickem Up Kane, was a dog that placed 4th at our Derby on September 10 of this year. This dog also won this years ARHA LP Missouri State Hunt as well. This was the owner’s first experience at an AKC license event. I think he’s sold on it and we’ll see him again SOON!!!
One more note to make here. We managed to get 3 rookie judges their very first trial under their belt. These judges came from our Basic SPO Judging Seminar that we had in Indianapolis on July 10 of this year. I heard nothing but good comments about them and I would strongly recommend them to any club within the Midwest Beagle Gundog Asso. Congrats to these new judges!!!
