If you are out in a cast of 3 dogs dog A has a check...dog B has a check and dog C has 2 checks.... And you see a rabbit no where near the dogs.. Who's call is it if you run the Rabbit the judge or the handlerS?

Is the current line live or dead?

Every judge I have ever seen left it up to the cast. If all agree you run that rabbit, if not you move the dogs and try to jump another rabbit.

It is the Judges call. No rule covers this situation. Lots of judges ask the handlers out of courtesy, but I decide for myself when im judging . If you ask it can bring out some things in people that are better left alone.

I think if the line is not dead you are obligated to stay with the line the dogs are on. If the line is dead the judge has the right to call the dogs to the line and go from first check.

i mean there is no line , there is like 10 mins left to hunt and u r bout to turn the dogs lose and u see a rabbit and one out of the 3 guys dosent want to run it because he is ahead,

allways thought it was left up to the judge.. !

I'm pretty sure its up to the judge. The handlers don't have a say so in the situation, it is up to the judge whether you turn out on the rabbit or not. Like Mike said most judges will ask but if all do not ALL do not agree then their should be a fresh start away from where the rabbit was seen.

Ok I didnt get that from your first post. There is time left on the clock and you have a line on a rabbit, I actually think the judge would be remiss if he didnt hearken the dogs to the line to be judged on first check. It is not the owner of the dogs decision whether to run a rabbit or not unless he picks up his hound.

i would care less what anybody wanted, if i got a rabbit, we are there to run rabbits and may the best dog win .. we put the dogs on that rabbit and go from 1st breakdown on scoreing ,,,till the clock says we stop.

As a judge I feel obligated to give every dog a chance to score points.

Crabtree nailed this one on the head. I would put the hounds on the rabbit. The more scoring and more time running, the better chance that the best hound will be brought back. I have asked handlers before, but Crabby and others said it. Ultimately it is my call as the judge and I will always choose to run rabblts.

I don't run hardly any trials but that's the way I think it should be...........if there's a line to run then we run it. The few trials I did go to the other guys told me to think of all the dogs in the cast belonging to the judge for the duration of that cast. We're just there to observe and help if and when the judge asks for help handling dogs and what not. Unless there's a question about the safety of the dogs we run the line.

not sure what format you all are referring to, but in PP it is not the judges call. ALL handlers must agree to run to first check, if only one handler dissents, then line is not run.
