Beaverdam, Ohio "Hound and Hunter" Report

Post by Steve Fielder »

Beaverdam, OH - The Northwest Ohio Beagle Club continues to put numbers on the PKC leader board with it's Hound and Hunter events held at Thirsty's,just off Interstate 75 in Beaverdam. fHere's the report from Mike Bellamy with details of the November 2nd event:

"The morning hunt saw two casts of hounds going to the field. Well before the deadline (always a tribute to the guides' ability to put the casts in rabbits a short distance from the club) two cast winners had been declared, and they decided to hunt it off for the first place win !!

Just curious, how many dogs are in each cast at a PKC hunt, 5?

No there are 4. This means that the most dogs they had was 8 and the least 5. This is pretty typical of a PKC coonhunt. They have tons and tons of hunts and usually less than 10 dogs at them.

So what gives Bob you seem to really dislike the PKC, considering most of your comments appear negative. Just wondering did you try PKC and not do very good in it, so it soured you?

Just for the record, the 2003 PKC Breeder's Showcase hunted 1,444 hounds in three nights. The PKC World Hunt hunted 1500 plus dogs, etc., etc. We have hundreds of hunts each year that post the largest numbers of dogs of any registry. We also have a lot of local hunts that draw few numbers. Each is important to the organization and to the sport.

I started a beagle program for another registry years ago. I know that Rome isn't built in a day. I also know that the PKC Beagle Program is developing much faster than did the program of my prior experience. I am a patient man. I remember the days when I looked at PKC and thought, they will never make it. Then one day I looked and low and behold, they had twice as many events as we did.

PKC strives for quality events and we will build this program one brick at a time. We welcome your participation and your criticism but don't make any bets that this program won't succeed. At least don't bet the Christmas money on it. And that reminds me...

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!

I will readily apologize if my post offended anyone. That was NOT my intent (to degrade the PKC or anyone else). I was genuinely curious how many dogs were in a cast at a PKC trial. If it offened anyone, please accept my apology. I sincerely hope ALL field trial registries suceed with great growth and participation!

Darrin, no offence given and none taken! I didn't mean to get on a high horse with you either partner.

I hope to see you at a PKC beagle event some day. Whatever brand you choose to run, may good fortune be with you!

Bev,
Kinda funny wasn't to long ago I heard you slamming PKC and Steve Fielder in the chat room. What's up with that? Now they are advertising in the American Beagler and everything is OK. Guess that just shows that money talks.

Todd, if you're going to gossip, get your facts straight. I've never slammed Steve Fielder because I'd never met the man. You are talking about a time before the PKC Beagle program was even on its feet yet and the pros and cons were being debated. Debating preferred running formats and slamming are two different things. There are things I like and don't like about each, and I won't hesitate to state my opinions, but when time is limited, a person picks a format or two and goes with it.

As I recall, my preferred choice of formats was being hit heavily by somebody else *cough*Stony*cough*, and being compared in an unfavorable light to PKC. That person and I still go back and forth about it. We had a similar phone conversation just last night. Just because he can't see any sense to the formats I run doesn't mean I think any less of the guy or would want to embarrass him on a public forum. I consider him to be a friendly person and an honest beagler. All that aside, my dogs, hunting and trialing came long before the magazine, and the magazine is my job. They are not one and the same. I know it's a difficult concept to grasp, but it's true.

I guess you don't know a lot about The American Beagler, Todd. From day 1 it has always been an all-registry magazine and will promote all legal beagling activities in the U.S. and Canada. If you were a subscriber to the magazine instead of just a cyberguest and chat room lurker, you'd know that. Steve Fielder and I have a good working relationship and even though Ralph and I don't run in PKC trials at this time, I wish him the best with the PKC program. You wanna know how money talks and BS walks? Pop the 18 bucks for a subscription, and then I might listen to your criticisms of me and the magazine.

So what was the purpose of your post? Merely to spread some Christmas cheer?

Hey Bev, take some cough medicine! LOL!!!
Todd,
I will admit I was slamming UKC and Bev was slamming PKC. It was pretty much all in fun but I think we each have things we dont like in each. My advice is run what you like when you like and have fun. If your afraid to get beat or dont have the power then stay home like some folks I know do!

Stony, I don't think we were slamming as much as we were trying to convince each other of the advantages of our preferences. Debates can get pretty hardball at times when two people are trying to make a point. Our conversations were more like "Idon't like yours because....and you didn't like mine because..." I still wouldn't consider that slamming.

Here's what I consider slamming:

1. Your ARHA champions are garbage because they got their titles running squirrels.

2. XYZ kennel breeds nothing but a bunch of backtracking fools

3. John Doe is a butthole and a jerk because he enjoys the benefits of a free message board and chat room on a daily basis, yet has the stones to criticize the provider.

See the difference?
