LP Judging Question
I have a scenario I'd like to throw out and see how everyone would call it. Let's say you been out in a cast with three dogs for about 30 minuites and no rabbits up yet. Dogs are hunting ok, all but one, he's hit and miss. A spectator opens a slim jim and starts eating it. The one dog that has not hunted real well is standing near and smells the slim jim. Let's say he barks at the person eating the slim jim, wanting to get him something to eat. He barks 4 times. Do you put him on the clock? If it is deer jerky is it off game?
. Seriously, do you put him on the clock for food barking???

Re: LP Judging Question
this same thing happened on a cast i was on,well, kinda the same,we was hunting over by the greenup dam in ky,a lady was walking a sheaperd lookin dog up by the shelterhouse,a dog on the cast went towards the dog and lady booger barking, the judge overlooked it and went on,i think he dod the right thing, sometimes ya just have to use common sense and leave it as nothing more then a judgement call........

Re: LP Judging Question
If a dog barks three times! Then it goes on the clock when I am judging. No matter what it's barking at and its minused for not producing a rabbit. I once judge a cast in IN. There was only one dog hunting, the other 4 were at the handlers feet. The dog goes in a thicket and comes out booger barking. All the other dogs race to thicket were the first dog was at and go into it. On the other side out runs a coyote. Now the dog did by no means attempt to run the yote actually he was IMO telling his owner that there was a yote there. Now I put the hound on the clock and minused him for not producing a rabbit. Not for booger barking at a yote and actually my opinion he was doing what he was supposed to do. But by the rules and whats in black and white no grey area here you minused the dog for not producing a rabbit. Thats the way I read the rules anyway.

Re: LP Judging Question
I agree with murphy 3 barks is 3 barks and rules are rules if a dog jumps a rabbit within that 3 minutes and you dont give the slim jim barking dog his strike somebody will be protesting..

Re: LP Judging Question
Dose it say if dog in danger. Timeout should be call.I think dog in danger call timeout. He said dog barking coming out.Hell he scare. And plus he was the only dog hunting. That just like a pack of dog running a rabbit in a trial and they run across the road and three get hit by a car and get kill do you tell the handle to pick up his dog for not hunting in the hunt or call timeout.

Re: LP Judging Question
I think that if the dogs are all there along with the judges I think the judges shouldnt put the dog on the clock if the dogs standing up trying to get the food. I wouldnt anyways. no offense to anyone but I think that alot of people are judging the rulebook alot more than they are judging the dogs for what they are supposed to do RUN A RABBIT. Let the dog that wins the cast win it don't take it away from him because he's wanting food remember these are dogs were talking about. Not machines.

Re: LP Judging Question
Thats a tough call, I know what the rules say, but I kinda agree with Ryan. If it was my dog I could live with it either way. Homeboy better choke that slim jim down before I stick somewhere else though.

Re: LP Judging Question
Minusing the dogs would be judging them running a rabbit, not a Slim Jim. Regardless of the situation 3 barks and the dog is struck, if not you can be protested. this is a spot where using common sense is not the thing to do.ryan durham wrote:I think that if the dogs are all there along with the judges I think the judges shouldnt put the dog on the clock if the dogs standing up trying to get the food. If the dog had been out hunting for a rabbit instead of under the handlers feet then this couldnt have happened.

By the way the dog never barked, but if it had it would have went on the clock.

The Sasquatch would not be considered major off game. I would consider it fast game!!!!! No 2 legged animal is listed as major off game!

Re: LP Judging Question
I agree crabby. The dog didn't bark at the slim jim, but I thought he was going to. As far as Sasquatch goes, if it was a sasquetchette, I may be game on that.mike crabtree wrote:

Re: LP Judging Question
Well boys gotta disagree with yall on his one.
I say you over look it & move on. Tell the handler's what happened & move on.
Come on guys we are judging rabbit dogs!
I do not want to beat a dog that is barking at a handler.
I would rather them get a minus with their heads to the ground!
Ten bucks says the Slim Jim dog wouldn't win the cast anyways!
Nuff Said!
Just my 2 cents!

Re: LP Judging Question
I cant figure you guys out. Barking at RABBIT scent that is a little too old to run I.E. jumped it after we handled the dogs is bad and a deserved minus, but barking at a handler with a Slim JIm is just fine!!!!!!!!!!
