I think if a beagle is AKC registered then it is full blooded. Do not understand why it would matter if it goes over the 15" mark.

Because LP hunts are run in two size classes, 13 inches and 15 inches. Up to 13 inches can run in the 13 inch class. Over 13 inches to 15 inches run in the 15 inch class. Or at least that is how I understand the rules that I have read on the ARHA website.

Hear's a thought, maybe someone could come up with a fromat to Beagles over 15 inches. Do you think that a petition would need to be sent around to see how many owners would be interested in this new format before the ARHA is contacted? Just curious.

Breed Standard states 13 inch and, 15 inch not 15 1/2 inches. I was at a trial and, was beat by a coon hound. lol My dog is 14 inches and, this dog was at least two inches taller at the shoulder. If you let 15 1/2 inches slide next is 16 inches when does it stop? Everyone would be breeding bigger dogs just to keep up.

do you really think an inch is really gonna make a difference?Could it be you were just beaten by a better dog?

Hey Ed,
So are you saying that a dog over 15" is not a beagle? If you have a kennel full of dogs and your best dog is 16" and you want to go hunting do you leave him home cause he is too tall. If it is a speed thing then lets clock them with a radar and determine what is too fast to use for hunting and cull them. LOL
A pure bred beagle is a beagle regardless of height.
"Field Trials is to keep the beagle useful as a rabbit-hunting hound."
This statement pulled from a rule set does not say to get the best we can as long as it is under 15"

I think inches matter, where do we stop? Why do we divide the classes and, not run them all together, just a thought.

ARHA and UKC do not seperate by inches....They all run together.

ps my 14" female won at a hunt with around 35 dogs and I am sure some were 15" and she still came out on top.

Hunter,

I've had some good rabbit dogs that were over 15 inches, and sold them with no papers to people wanting a good rabbit dog. Nothing wrong with the dog other than it did not meet the breed standard of 15 inches. I ran a 14 inch male in the ukc state hunt this past weekend and finished 2nd out of 44 dogs, but wouldn't want him to try and keep up with a fox hound. lol

pine mountain that is not how arhr lp is laid out all males and females are run toghther regardless of size[unless there over 15 inches] well i should rephrase that they are drawn into casts of five and either sex can compete against one another.
