Novice beagler who hunts for fun. Thought about running a few trials. However, after reading alot of these posts it dont sound like much fun to me. Can anyone convince me one way or another. It would take alot of convincing after seeing all the negativity on this site. Shouldn't you all be promoting the sport you love.

No need in trying to convince you of anything........but I will say this. Trialing is a lot of fun as long as you dont get too into it. Go try it a couple of times and if you dont have a good time dont go back, but I am betting if you enter with an open mind you will have a good time and meet some good people.
I know it seems pretty negative around here at times, but in the end it will be ok and things will be better off.......including the breed.
Take care,
Randy

four seasons, what goes on on these boards is not indicative of what goes on at trials. Trials are a load of fun. You will meet a lot of really good people with the same interests. You'll see a lot of really good dogs and a lot of junk. If you've got a competitive bone in your body you'll have a good time. Most trials you'll eat more good cooking than you can stand and will probably make a lot of new friends.

Go try trialing , you probably will like it , if you don't , well you don't have to go back. I enjoy it myself and have been to enough to know that a lot of the negative stuff on here is rather isolated to certain areas. It only takes a few rotten apples to rot the bushel. Do not be persuaded by what you read on here lately, I've been visiting this board since it's beginning and it has been more negative and more childish the last month or so then it has ever been. Learn to laugh at some peoples littleness or just ignore their post , sometimes I laugh and other times it gets negative enough to hurt the sport and I quit reading those. Go to trials for fun, try to win by taken decent dogs ( I would if I could borrow them) but if winning is the most important thing to you then you will be better of at home and so will the others at the trial . It really is that simple. Have a good time with you dogs because you or some of them one will soon be Gone. Life is Short !! Lately I have not been letting my son come to this board very much because being 14 it is easy to be convinced by others and that is sad because he once read a lot of post on here so I can understand how anyone that is not seasoned in with these boards could be negatively persuaded. I'm not throwing anything at anyone but once a pattern starts it is very easy for a lot of others to follow suit. I've saw a lot of post lately from people that just seemed strange because they are much more negative then they have been in the past, but I think it will soon pass. Happy Hunting Hearld

everyone needs to make their own decisions about field trialing. some like it others dont. try it for youself and see what you think. dont be influenced by others. make your own choice. i know myopionion about it and i dont agree with others and there are some that dont agree with me but that is life and i wish them all well. there is a hunt on sunday january 22 at mid ohio beagle club. if you can come and try it out then let me know what you think.

To me, going to the trials is more about meeting good folks and sharing some time with some fellow beaglers than trying to prove you have a better beagle. I win some, I lose some. There are some flaws in the systems on how dogs are judged. But, I keep coming back for more and the good experiances greatly outweigh the bad ones.

I'm with ya four seasons. These boards have me talked out of starting to trial this summer. My son and I have been working our two dogs hard all summer to get ready for huntng season and trialing this upcomming summer. After all the trial bashing I dont know if I want to take him out into this kind of situation.
