NEW FORMAT

For those that have not already heard there is currently a attempt to start a new format in the beagle world. Terry Sudduth has started looking for a "HOME" for this format. The new "home" for this format will either be UKC, PKC or he says he will start a new registry if he has to. UKC has already been contacted and they sound interested in looking at the format. This will not happen over night but if a home can be found soon, hopefully by next Spring we could see some action.
Today I took it upon myself to personally call Todd Morgan from UKC and express my personal support for the new format and told him I hoped that UKC would take a serious look at it and that no matter what registry it ended up with it would be a big shot in the arm for them.
I know not all beaglers have the internet but I urge anyone that supports this new format to contact UKC and express your support! You can contact Todd Morgan at tmorgan@ukcdogs.com or by phone at 696-343-9020.

Terry,
If there is anything I can do to help get this going please let me know. I will do anything I possibly can!

What type of dogs are we talking about in this New Format? PP style, LP style or "Tweeners"?

I would like to hear more about this.

PP style, that has to have line control, and work a check from the inside out, speed will take care of It self,If they can run arabbit 100 MPH,AND DO IT WRIGHT THEN THAT IS OK,AND SHOULD BE HARD TO BEAT,iT WILL BE SIMILAR TO PP STYLE,BUT THE RULES WILL BE MODIFIED SOME FOR THE BETTER.i WILL LET EVERYONE KNOW WHEN IT IS SET IN CONCRETE.

I am glad Todd Morgan is interested in starting another fomat in UKC. I talked to him and told him there are some clubs here in Indiana that will support it. UKC does have alot to offer those who field trial in there hunts. The Select Sires program is great!!!
I agree with Aaron if any of you are interested in another format with UKC make sure you e mail Todd Morgan. It will help things along.

If you need anything Terry call me!!

What is PKC's second format like? I know the hound and hunter format is a bit' like the current UKC format, but what's the other one like? Isn't it a bit' of what you're looking for? If anyone knows, let me know, thanks.

Just my thoughts

Just my thoughts as I dont trial much, but do enjoy running and gun hunting.

I think a new format could work out well. The ultimate format would be one where everytime a dog won a hunt everyone would say to themselves "Id really like to have that one in the field when I am hunting."

Sit down and put to paper what really makes a rabbit dog without considering formats currently running. Then take that information and incorporate the things from other formats that work, leave out the things that dont. I think every format today has its plus and minuses.

Should certify all champions and I know time is a constraint sometimes but they should also certify hunt winners. Have a High scoring hound of the day (if the dog does not meet expectations without pack mates or does not take a gunshot well) or certified hunt winner (for a dog that is a complete hound and also handles a gunshot).

Good luck, I think you might find alot of people ready for a change.

I think a hound should have to win more than once also. I think some hounds luck into one win to become champion status. If you had to win say 3 times you'd know you have a champion hound that can win and I think the title would mean more. You could also skip the grand class in my opinion. I also think there are far too many PP hunts. Or if you held that many hunts make one big hunt a month or so and count those points toward HOY if your going to have that title. I'd like to see a new format arise

Todd from UKC has posted a poll on the UKC board to try to get an idea of what kind of support there is out there for this new format. Feel free to go visit and cast your vote! Here is a the link to the topic. http://www.ukcdogs.com/forums/showthrea ... post474970

I had a big thread on possible new beagle formats on Rabbit Hunting On Line last year. I am all for a better way to judge a beagle, I do not support some of the current formats in any way. PKC sure could use a good set of beagle rules (in my opinion). Their program seems to be stuck in the mud under their current formats.
PKC Small Pack option is similar to ARHA's Little Pack rules.

Best of luck to you guys if you get UKC to take this own. Who knows if something is done with the progressive pack rule of dogs getting by with babbling and pottering I may look into it. I always found it funny that they'd minus one that got 15 to 20 foot from check, but yet let one get by with blowing a hole in the ground. Nevertheless like I said, good luck with the endeavour. Maybe things will work out for you guys in the end.
