East Texas beaglers, call Lamar at (936) 422-4506 if you are interested in PKC Hound and Hunter beagle hunts.
TEXAS GUNDOG BEAGLE ASSOCIATION
PKC Licensed Beagle Hunt - Shelbyville, TX
Saturday, September 17, 2005
Hound and Hunter - Entry Deadline: 7:00 AM; Entry Fee: $15.00
From Shelbyville travel South on Hwy 87 to Patroon Country Store; turn left on FM 2261; go about seven miles to East Hamilton Cemetery Road; turn left and follow signs to club house. PKC single registration available day of hunt. For more information call Lamar Denby at (936) 422-4506.
Competition beagling is not for everyone, but many hunters love it! The Hound and Hunter format sanctioned by the Professional Kennel Club is one of the best. It is for the kind of rabbit dogs I grew up with. Beagles that know how to jump and run a rabbit with good line control and just the right speed. A good medium strong rabbit dog will do well in the Hound and Hunter competition trials. I hope you will consider participating in our PKC hunts. We can single register your beagle the day of the hunt. Step up to the Pros and try a Professional Kennel Club beagle hunt!

Thanks, Dave.
We were with PKC once before, but I think now it will go over in Texas. The "Hound and Hunter" format is really good. Looking forward to your posts on PKC beagling. I would have replied earlier but I have been gone.

Lemar, this weekend I spoke with Larry Meeks, the CEO of PKC, on the potential of getting a PKC Beagle World Championship together. I am hoping for the best.

Dave, I really believe PKC beagling is about to go big time here in the South.

PKC just had a Coonhound National Championship that paid out over $25,000 to the winner. It may take a while but I think the beagles have a great potential pay out for a similar hunt.

Lamar,
First, I wish you the best of luck. Second I have a question for you. As you remember you tried to have UKC money hunts down here and nobody showed up. What makes you think that PKC hunts will be any different? You went from a well established program to a brand new copy cat program. We all know that a club cannot survive holding only PKC events. Like I said, I wish you the best of luck.

Steven,
Your question is a good one and thanks for wishing us the best. The PKC hunts will be hosted by a new club in a different area. Most of the guys in the original club do not like sanctioned competition hunts - AKC, PKC, ARHA, or UKC. And, that's OK.
For your information, the PKC beagle program leadership has now changed, hopefully for the better. The new club may not surrive, but it will not be because we didn't try.

Steven, there are some significant differences in PKC and UKC beagle programs. The management would be one example. I have seen some things that were acceptable to the UKC management that would never be acceptable with PKC. There are some significant rule differences also. PKC just had a National Championship for it's coonhound division that paid out over $25,000 to the winner. UKC will never be able to match that in coonhounds or beagles. PKC has a Super Stake payout that pays out similar types of money on it's coonhounds, it could have a similar program for it's beagle program where breeders could benefit as well as the winning beagle owners. When you are talking about PKC, you are talking about professionals, not amateurs.
I hunt some UKC Beagle Hunts. Except for some UKC management issues, UKC hunts are fine in my opinion. I plan on attending some PKC Beagle Hunts and more important than which registry I hunt in, I plan on having beagles that can win in any beagle competion event where the rabbit has to be seen before any plus points are given.

Redtick,
Would those management issues you are referring to be the issues of banning you from their board? You have been banned off PKCs board for a long time and then you got it from UKC. When you were banne from PKC all you did is bad mouth them. Now it has flip flopped and you are banned from UKC and you bad mouth them. Weird!
I heard that UKC will be giving away almost $200,000 (Two Hundred Thousand dollars) with their new performance fund. They said on their board (the one you are banned from) that they already have like $120,000 in the fund and that $10,000 per month has been going into the fund. To me, $200,000 is a little bit bigger cabbage than two $25,000 hunts.
If you think that PKC paying off $25,000 to a beagle will happen in your lifetime you are nuts. that would require them to take a $24,990 loss on the event. Then who would they give it to? Their hound and hunter winner or their Little Pack winner? You said it yourself that their management is screwed up because they are offering two formats. Now that you are allowed on their board it is okay? Which way is it? Flip Flop Flip Flop

I can post on the UKC board anytime I chose to. All I would need to do is change user names. Anyone can use any user name they want and post all of the profane, lewd, and pornographic material they want and UKC management allows it. I refuse to lower myself to other's levels and you will never see a lewd, vulger or pornographic post made by me under any user name whether folks knew it was written by me or not. I believe message boards reflect the policies of the management in other issues. You will never see any lewd. vulger, or pornographic messages on the PKC board and anyone that posts a message on that board is held responsible for it by PKC. It is not that way with the UKC board.
Enough about the message boards and personal attacks. Let's talk competition beagles.
As for the Performance Fund, I attend a good number of UKC beagle hunts here in Illinois and some in Indiana and I have seen or not heard of anyone that participates in that program. Maybe there are a few that I do not know about but it sure doesn't seem to be that much of a deal around here. Someone could be blowing smoke.
As for PKC. I still have issues with their program having 2 sets of rules and until they iron that issue out, I am not participating in PKC's beagle program. So, I haven't changed my stand with PKC. The fellow that didn't want me posting my objections to the PKC beagle program is no longer with PKC. In my opinion, PKC started off in the wrong direction and has not recovered yet. I have recently posted the same comments on their board that the fellow didn't want me posting and so far, there is no problem. So, maybe PKC will change it's direction. I do believe PKC has a registry where the management has a lot of integrity and honesty. I just don't think they have anyone on their staff that knows beagle hounds. That is better than a staff that has no integrity.

Dave,
Bill Ray Vincent is helping PKC with the beagle program now. He knows beagles and what hunters look for in a rabbit dog. After talking with him at length, I am very encouraged as to the future of PKC beagling.

Don,
PKC is a large operation dedicated to professional coonhound hunts. It has passed UKC, AKC and NKC, from what I've been told. But this didn't happen over night. It took a lot of dedication from the PKC staff and the coon hunters. The PKC Beagle program is only in the infant stage right now and we need to be patient and do all we can to help it grow. This means single registering our best hounds and forming clubs across the nation. And, not becoming discouraged when only two or three hunters show up for an event. I've made up my mind to hang on and promote PKC beagle hunts in the Lone Star State. We'll see what happens!
