Believe me, I tried my very hardest to let this go but for some reason I just can't. Mr. Copeland, you did read what your step son posted didn't you. Is he allowed to curse you like he did the rest of us. If so, Shame on you. Is he allowed to lie to you like he did the rest of us. If so, shame on you.
The boy is seventeen and at that age everybody in the world cheats you. Why all the sudden is this being brought up and if you really wanted to handle it like a man, you should of dealt with Matt and left it at that. I'd say he and possibly you have tarnish your names in little pack. This was not handled in the best way.
Now before you go off and say that this is none of my business, I'll say it for you. It's not, but the one I feel sorry for is your step son. He has a very rough life ahead of him to say the least. I hope things work out for you and your step son but it ain't going to be easy. Just my 2 cents worth.
One last thing, Matt is no cheater. I have had him judge me and he's never cheated for me or anyone else. He brings the best dog back as the winner. PERIOD.

Jlcopeland if your referring to when I judge you at the Ky state in the the first round and blue ninja dog of Tim Thompson won that cast hands down hell Ray Charles could have seen it. Your dog was unable to keep up when the rabbit was running big the pack of dogs run off and left your red dog for at least ten mins hard to do any scoring when they can't stay in the race. If you would run your dogs get them in shape and cowboy instead of crying like a titty baby after getting your ass kick man up and say I got beat.

Kevin and Matt are both close friends of mine. Matt and myself have judged together more than anybody. I have never questioned a call he has made. These guys know what dogs are and how they should be judged. They have judged me several times and how many times do you see my face on the beagler. ZERO!!!! These boys look at the dogs not the other end of the lead

And as far as the ky state I had a dog in the first round with ninja. He dominated. Hell he won the whole hunt. Kevin done I fine job judgin.

Please explain this statement if everything is on the up and up with LP. Seems like the more everyone jumps on the WFO bandwagon the more it confirms what BAbeagles was saying from the start. Just a simple observation.

I trialed quite a bit this year and handled my dogs and quite a few for other people. I know of at least twice I drew Matt for a judge and he brought back the best dog for the hour each time and no it wasn't my dog. I had heard a lot of bull about cheating to win so I really watched close. He worked hard to stay on the dogs and made the calls as fair as possible. If anybody has any doubts about judging just go watch the person judge and make up your own mind. I believe in telling it like I see it and I hate to see anybody get cheated.

This will be a little long, but I hope you guys take the time to read it. Just to give a little background on my opinion, I got started rabbit hunting with my Dad and Grandad before I was in kindergaten, and that was more than 30 years ago. I started ARHA Little Pack and Big Pack trialing in 1991, became a bench and field judge, and a breed inspector as well as a Master of Hounds, back then. I trialed hard until I went off to college in Georgia and even attended and judged in some hunts down there while I was in college. My Dad and I started back trialing about two years ago but we never stopped rabbit hunting and raising beagles. So, to answer the question what does it take to win, You have got to understand one thing before you ever start to trial. OPINIONS! Everyone has a different opinion about rabbit dogs and what makes a good one. When I was trialing back in the early 90s in Little Pack, the majority of the judges preferred a more conservative close running dog that checked inside out. Which by the way drove me crazy, to see a judge score dogs on a covered track where a fast dog had run the rabbit away from the other dogs and the judge. But now in Little Pack most not all judges prefer a faster, dog that is very competitve and will do what ever it takes to stay on the front of a pack. My preference is somewhere in between the two, fast but clean, doesnt outrun his or her nose, swings some but not out so far that you are not really sure if the dog is on the same rabbit or what. That being said, the opinions are what makes judging and trialing so difficult. If I am running my dog in a cast and the judge likes real rough dogs, and my dog is a cleaner running dog, I probably won't do so well and vise versa. That is why it is important to take in as many hunts as you can because eventually, if you have a good dog you will have a day where your dog, the right conditions, some luck, and a judge with a like mind all cross paths and you will win. Now some of us, myself included will have times where we feel our opinion so strongly that we disagree with the judge. Which I don't think is a bad thing. As judges and handlers, we all need to learn to be able to disagree, get over it, and remain friends. I have been in casts with Mike Crabtree on some occasions where he and I really disagreed about something in the cast but to this day I consider him a friend and before the cast was over we had moved on. I was in a cast once with Matt Marple, and at a break the judge was giving out the scoring and the judge had made a scoring error, Matt in a gentlmenly fashion called it to the judges attention, Matt was right by the way, and the judge admitted it, made the change and we all went on, no problem. So, what I am saying is, although I am the chief of disagreeing, we all just need to realize as little pack hunters that we are going to disagree, and if we do the one that is disagreeing doesnt have to be called a cry baby or a winer, they are just a person of a differing opinion. However, if you disagree, voice your opinion, discuss it out, then shut up about it ,let go and move on. So, now after all my over thinking on this subject, the answer to the question, in my opinion is this. To be a winner in Little Pack, you need, 20% a really good, fast dog, that wants the front and to smell rabbit and not the tail of another dog swishing in his face, 20% go to alot of hunts, 10% some lucky breaks (a cast without a mouthy dog, a cast where there is rabbits, your dog being the first one to the brush pile where the rabbit is setting ect...) and 50% you having a good attitude and not thinking that every call the judge makes is a life altering situation. Now, that is my two cents worth, and as far as all the fussing about people cheating and stuff, it has happened, everyone knows it has, because people are people and people sometimes cheat, but in this life the only thing you can control is yourself, so just make sure you don't cheat, everyone else has to answer for themselves. And I have had a small amount of contact with Matt Marple, but the contact I have had, he seems to be a fare, honest guy, with some really good dogs, and hounddog is one of the nicest honest guys I have ever trialed with, and well Crabtree? Even though he is my Brotha from anotha Motha, and my opinion may be biased, he is the original strait shooter. So there is all my rambling, and so everyone knows who this is, this is Johnny Williams, no hidden identity here in Tarheel country :D ! Now I'll continue to eat my popcorn and laugh from the sidelines.

i met matt for the first time at the world this year my open male lost to his open male. at the end of the cast o shook his hand said congratts and good luck next round. nobody got cheated. ran my champ female against his angel dog. my female won. he shook my hand said congrats and good luck next round. still yet nobody got cheated. he and his fellow kennel partners seemed like great guys to me and if they ever come to a hunt up in my neck of the woods they are all welcome to my house for steak and beers! by the way i like beagles and most beaglers. but i hate crybabies.

I guess i will put in my two cents .I drew matt as judge in state hunt with hound of year at stake with his dog leading my dog we didn't get much running but matt did everything in his power to try to get rabbit up and give my dog a chance to win. didn't have to but did . don't even know him that well. i do know that it takes a lot of dedication to constantly win hours and hours of training then as soon as you have success there are some who like nothing better than to tear you down.by the way my dog didn't win but matt did good job judging
