UNO !!!!!!!

Re: UNO !!!!!!!
My opinion, I know everybody has one, but I see nothing but positive about Uno. His owners feed him, I don't. He is the best of the best at what he does. He seems to be enjoying himself as much as my hounds do in the field when he is in the ring. AND--The tail is the breed standard. If our field hounds had tails like that, they wouldn't get so messed up from running. Ever see bone where a tail is worn through? I have. It can't be a good thing. I for one am glad to see that this board has attracted the attention of beaglers who show hounds, gives another perspective. I would like to see some beagle brigade people (trainers, handlers) on the board to give us another perspective on our hounds. Are the beagle brigade culls? Preacher, I respect your opinion as much or more than any on the board, and I'm glad that you live by "let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another." Leah has been been very free with excellent beagle health information on this board, and I'm glad we hunters can share it with them. Best wishes to you and yours!! And congratulations to UNO, I just heard he won it all.

Re: UNO !!!!!!!
Did you notice the tail had a good bit of a flag, I'm sure the way they had the end bobed off they could have trimed off more of the flag.
The only other thing I noticed was when he howled, the jowls opened to reveal a good bit of flews, probably some throwback to an ancestor long long ago...
Otherwise, a very pretty dog.
Do showdogs have retractable claws? I couldn't see the slightest hint of a toenail on that dog...

Patch, I have handled dogs for a long time, but never heard the term "flews." Pardon my ignorance, but what is that? Maybe you can teach an old dog something today! Thanks in advance for some education.

I think it is a fleshy lower lip that hangs in the rear...a lot of the ole wetmouth hounds had it.DRamey wrote:Patch, I have handled dogs for a long time, but never heard the term "flews." Re: UNO !!!!!!!
OK, got it. Like a bloodhound, or one of the older breeds of coonhounds. The hounds I had as a boy were like that, they all came from brace stock but were unsuitable because they actually ran rabbits. My uncle gave them to me, good as gold to a boy of 11. I remember that added to the houndy look of them.

Re: UNO !!!!!!!
I agree, David. Given my choice, I'd rather have a little extra flew on a hound as to have one that looked like it could lick ants from the bottom of a coke bottle...and I've had a few of those...LOL.

can u imagin what this hound is worth. i have thought about, and the numbers are huge. for one u are dealing with people who have money, 2 they will pay good money for a pup. i am not a show guy, but i think uno has done something special. i think of what he has done is harder then making a IFC .
Re: UNO !!!!!!!
Bill, you don't know the truth you speak. How many IFCs have been made in 132 years? How many Beagle Westminster Best in Show Winners? This is not to diminish the IFC in any way - but look at the difference in competition. Uno had to go up against not only his own breed and win it, the whole hound group and win it, and every other AKC accepted breed - the best of those breeds, and beat them, too. It really is history for the Beagle breed. We will ALL feel this success - even us hunting beagle owners. Guaranteed.
Re: UNO !!!!!!!
ok been preachin it for YEARS..From Field to Show and Show to Field the way it should be
yall Do What YOU Want and I will Do What I want..
As the Saying goes Feed what ya like, like what ya Feed.
I Will Continue to do so....
Why Would i sell a Show Quality Dog to A Show person For $500 and to someone that was gonna TRIAL IT FOR $300
Cause I can!!!!!!
I Always Liked the look and conformation Of the Show Hound and wanted a dog that Could RUN A RABBIT.
I was TOLD that you caint have Both.....
They Were Wrong.................

Re: UNO !!!!!!!
I don't really care if Uno runs a rabbit or not. I don't feed him. He's a good looking dog that's for sure! I probably would not breed to him for what I want in a rabbit dog, but I'm not a breeder or very smart either
Anybody know how old this hound is?

Re: UNO !!!!!!!
TC I don't agree with some of the things you say/do,but I DO agree with breeding in some good show quality for health and conformation that is needed for a hound to hunt hard in the field!!TC wrote:ok been preachin it for YEARS..From Field to Show and Show to Field the way it should be

To you other folks that say you wouldn't breed to a show dog...You might not end up with a topnotch hunting dog within the first whelp but it takes time and several building blocks...witch is how we better the breed to begin with, some of you that say you wouldn't breed to a show hound will swear that you are bettering the breed,BUT how do we better the breed if our hunting dogs can't handle the phiscal work it takes to hunt day in day out....TO MANY dogs I see in mags winning trials look like dismebered aliens.
Again congrats to UNO!!

Bev.
I was talking about the only time I ever saw this dog. It was at the show on TV, the TV has this rewind slow motion feature so I reran it several times. I just couldn't see the nails, I thought his pads must be pink so maybe his nails are white/clear and that was why I couldn't make them out. As far as your Coke bottle comment, we all know no such hound would make the show ring, so the over exaggerated upper lips on uno covered the lower flews well but I wonder how these would hold up to being ran through razor grass out hunting, but right, this hound was not bred to hunt.
I am glad this little dog has had great success at what he was bred for but, I can't think of one breed the AKC shows popularized that improved the intended purpose of the breed, I can think of many that it almost ruined and caused over population of the breed by many getting bred to turn a $ for the breeders selling pets.
I am sorry but, I could more join in on the hoop-la if a dual purpose hound had won, but has been said and it looks to me, many unknowingly are willing to sacrifice hunt quality on the altar of looks...jmho
TC, let me know when you take uno to the field and how he does at running you rabbits...I hope the unseen hunting instincts are lying there waiting to be given the opportunity and all his offspring are blessed with his prepotent abilities...
