Re: WORLD HUNT UPDATES
I was under the impression that he was out after he measured over the first time, the next times were just at the owners request. He did flinch real bad when the stand dropped on him, but if anything that made him smaller. The third measurement was probably the closest to being accurate. But all of this does not matter because he did measure over, they did scratch him from the hunt and the rules were followed and that should be the end of the story. Of course on the other hand the rules do say that a hound has to be measured out I believe three times before it is banned for life so I believe according to the rules he should still be able to run this dog in hunts if he sees fit. I mean if you are going to play by the rules you have to play by all the rules not just the ones everybody likes.

Re: WORLD HUNT UPDATES
Where??
A. Each club is to select a Breed Inspector for the hunt.
1. This person is to be knowledgeable concerning breed standards.
2. The host club has the option of whether or not to measure the hounds before the hunt; however, any handler may challenge the size of the hound, and such hound must be measured before advancing any further in the hunt.
3. If a handler is going to challenge the size of the hound it must be done at the staging area before the hounds go out in the field at the beginning of any cast. The handler should inform the judge of the cast he is challenging the size of the hound. The judge will request a measurement by the Breed Inspector. If the hound is found to be oversized it is disqualified. No other challenge to the hound’s size can be made except at the casting area. Once a dog is challenged and found to be less than 15” by the breed inspector the dog can not be challenged again that day at the same hunt.
4. The Breed Inspector makes the final decision as to whether the challenged hound shall be allowed to hunt.
5. The Breed Inspector has the right to measure all hounds that are entered in the hunt and to disqualify any hound that, in his opinion, does not meet breed standards, or is over 15 inches at the withers.
6. The Breed Inspector must have available for use an official measuring stand. An official measuring scale is any type of device that measures 15", and cannot be proven otherwise, shall be that club’s official measuring scale.
7. The Breed Inspector shall determine whether a hound qualifies for ARHA registration. The Breed Inspector shall check AKC and UKC registration papers for hounds being registered and write the AKC or UKC registration number on the ARHA registration form.
9. When being measured, a hound shall be standing in a natural, alert position with its head up but not stretched upward and with its feet well under the hound and forelegs vertical. The hound shall be placed on a non-slippery surface at floor or ground level. The hound shall not be required to be posed, or set up as in a bench show pose by the measurer. The Breed Inspector may request the handler’s assistance in getting the hound to stand up. If the handler refuses to help then the hound is scratched and turned in to the ARHA Office for being too tall.

Re: WORLD HUNT UPDATES
I give up guys. I was considering trying to get into this trail game. I have changed my mind. If a rule, that is enforced, causes so much heart ache and bellyaching, and down right insulting remarks, I don't need it. will just run my dogs, and gun hunt. Thanks
Re: WORLD HUNT UPDATES
paul like a wrote in a earler post it has been sometime since i have seen a rule book it was under #9 i wrote that rule it must have been removed when they added the part about the handler.the problem is that when measuring a hound two different people will almost always come up with two different numbers just look this hound was measured three times by the same person with three different numbers now lets just say your second measurement was your first i know for a fact that if this was my hound you would not have got another chance. just wondering out of i think 700 hound at the trial just how many were measured i really don't think it has anything to do with this hound but more to do with people don't like it's owner
Re: WORLD HUNT UPDATES
Carn of the 700 hundred hounds entered I don't think any where taller than Mr Wilson. He was 2 or 3 inches taller than rest of cast.2 dogs were measured in that cast the other measured 14''
You have to remember Breed Inspector is in charge if you say no you don't hunt.

Re: WORLD HUNT UPDATES
Carl,
It obvious that you don't know me. I was recently asked to measure a hound at a club hunt by a handler. The hound being measured was owned by one of my best friends. I measured it 1 time...it was fair and accurate.. he was disqualified...I would always measure a hound again at the request of any handler that measures out. I have NEVER declined a re-measure. You were not there in this case. The hound was scared to death and it many tries-- probably 6 or 7 to get the stand locked. No matter how easy i touched his back he jumped. Like I said earlier.. the first two were inaccurate.. It took about 5+ minutes to get to the third measurement. The dog never flintched after he calmed down. The measurment was accurate and I felt it was very fair. The hound was disqualified.
As far as the rule.. It never stated one time.. I was on the rules committee that wrote the new rule book the last 2 times.. Only the verbage that states the handler must help or the hound will be disqualified was added. I have copies of the rules that go back to the original 21 rules that started the organization.. Imagine that.. They once ran Little Pack with 21 rules and did just fine.. Its all of the BS like this that has made us now have a 21 page rule book that people still complain about.

Re: WORLD HUNT UPDATES
paul i'm not knocking you and i do know you it's the system that messed up there is no way to measure a hound exact. i ran little pack for about 18 years and i would say i never seen more than about maybe 10 hounds ever measured i was breed inspector for three clubs and i can only recall being asked officially to measure one hound. the way i see it there are three kind that go to trials 1st the kind that goes to have fun and meet new friends 2nd the houndsman he wants to run his best against your best and hope for the best 3rd the field trialer he wants to win at all cost even if there hound isn't the best in the cast . now when they come to the casting area and there is a big hound thats been winning number one is just glad to be there and meet new friends and see this great hound run ,number two he got his best on the end of his lead and is ready to head to head he knows that one two three or ten inches will not make a difference but hound work will win the cast. now number three he would rather measure you than take a chance in the field. now back to my ? how many hounds were measured at the world hunt ?
Re: WORLD HUNT UPDATES
I HAD ASK FOR A DOG TO BE MEASURED IN THE FIRST ROUND OF THE OPENS AT THE WORLD AND HE MEASURED OUT. THE MAIN REASON I HAD HIM MEASURED WAS BECAUSE HE WAS MEASURED OUT A FEWS WEEKS BEFORE AT CLUB HUNT I WAS AT AFTER GETTING ALL THE WAY TO THE FINALS. THE GUY GOT MAD, BUT O FELT LIKE IT WAS HIS FAULT FOR BRINGING A DOG THAT HAD ALREADY MEASURED OUT BEFORE. I DON'T LIKE TO ASK TO HAVE A DOG MEASURED, BUT IF MORE PEOPLE WOULD DO THIS WHEN DOGS ARE OPENS, WE WOULDN'T HAVE BIG FIVE WINNERS AND HOF GRAND CHAMPION HOUNDS GETTING MEASURED OUT AT THE WORLD HUNT. I WISH THAT NKC WOULD JUST GO AHEAD AND MAKE IT MANDATORY TO MEASURE ALL HOUNDS AT THE START OF HUNT WHEN THEY COME TO THE CASTING AREA FOR THE FIRST ROUND. THAT WOULD TAKE THE PRESSURE OFF PEOPLE HAVING TO ASK AND NOT HAVING TO WORRY IF THE GUY HE GETS MEASURED MIGHT PAY HIM BACK IN THE FIELD IF HE JUDGES, LIKE I 'VE HEARD SOME SAY THEY WOULD! JUST MY THOUGHTS.

Re: WORLD HUNT UPDATES
NKC has right system... Most big dogs don't show up any more...How long would it take to measure 705 dogs... When I first started we measured every dog... WHAT A WASTE OF TIME....To get the few that don't want to follow the rules...
