Getting into Judging AKC Trials

Post by Big Dog »

Okay, I went to the seminar this weekend and took the test. I am interested in judging trials that run AKC Midwest SPO type hounds, but how do you go about first getting some on the job experience and then going on to judge at some of the trials? Any help would be appreciated.

The best thing is to start going to as many trials at clubs that you want to judge for and let it be known that you want to start judging some. Most clubs will let you start off by judging Derby or fun trials. I would judge as many derby trials as I could. If you are any good it want take long for clubs to start calling. It doesn't take long for word to get out if you are a good judge because clubs are always looking for new judges.
