I've heard all sorts of silly reasons for a dog to be put on the clock. I don't think the rule book will EVER be able to cover all of our scenarios but maybe there should be one that states if it is obvious that a dog is barking at a distraction, and can return to hunting without distracting the rest of the cast, then no minus points should be given. I judged a cast where a dog got shocked by an electric fence and barked 3 times, i didn't minus him, instead took a timeout to asked the farmer to shut off his fence. A handler did ask me why I didn't put that dog on the clock, I responded "Would you ask me to place a dog on the clock that got hit by a car and barked 3 times?" Where do you drraw the line? Luckily that didn't have any impact on the rest of the cast, however his sasquatchs got loose from the lack of electric fence!!
I would have put him on the clock just as crabby said he would, if he was to bark. What if he barked 3 times and another dog jumped a rabbit 10 foot away? I would want my 10 points, as most would. It was my dog that I thought was gonna bark, and if he barked off, I say put him on the clock. If he would have barked and not been put on the clock, I would have probably loaded him up myself. I don't want my dog barking unless it is a rabbit. Anything else is unnaceptable. Just wanted evryone's thoughts on this since the board has been a little slow. I think it is different if'n they are in danger such as a trap or the road. But because the big boy wanted some food, I would hope no rabbit would be jumped so he could eat, a minus.

I'd say just sracth them all for not being able to jump a rabbit in 30 min. lol If he barks 3 times he must be put on the clock no matter what he is barking at if a rabbit is produced within the 3 min give him a positive strike if not a minus, either way it wouldn't be right because the dog dosen't deserve either one but the rules are the rules.

I haven't been judging very long but when you start using common sense and overlooking the rule book then things are going to fall apart fast because people will definitely take advantage of that. I saw a dog taking a dump and bark at the other dogs that were running up the trail in front of him he was put on the clock and another dog jumped a rabbit within 3 minuets and the dog received positive points. I also saw a handler miss the leash snap and the other dogs got a head start on his dog, she barked a couple of times trying to catch up with them she ended up getting a minus over it. Neither dog should have received + or - points but sometimes ##hit just happens and you laugh about it and go on, thats jmo.
