cell phone and judging in lp

so,what is the deal,it is on the arha websight,judges are not allowed to use cell phones in the field,right??????

well,this saturday,i was in a cast,the judge was on the cell phone talking to his girlfriend and a mutual friend of mine and his,and he was text messaging people the entire hour,in the meantime,judging our dogs by ear,and admitted he was judging by ear,he says,"i have ran dogs long enough to tell when a check is a check by ear.

i protested the cast,the other handler was goin to protest also,but changed his mind when his dog came back the winner by 10 points

the moh ruled against me cause the judge said he was not talkin on the cell,only texting

talking,texting,what is the difference?the judge admitted he was not using the celol to keep time,and did not have a medical emergency or anything,so,should the cast have been re ran?

rules are rules is what i have always been told,and i also believe that if you cant see the check,dont score it.judgeing by ear is not fair with all the mouthy dogs out there.

so what is your opinion?

it is not a written rule yet,just like the rule on rollin your dogs at the world hunt last year,it was not in the rule book but it was posted by joyce on the forrum,and it was enforced at the world,so,if that was enfoced,the cell deal should be too,but you are right,he should have givin his best effort,he expects that when his dog is gettin judged,the door swings both ways.

danny I don't know you but I would be mad too. If you are a judge you should do your job and that is go out and stay up with the dogs and make sure you do the best job you can. If I was ARHA I would ban that Judge from ever being a judge again. If you are using a cell phone during the event and you are the judge then you are not doing your job. I cannot even imagine someone doing that and then telling you he has judged enough to know dogs. I have ran dogs for years but I know by judging on voice alone you cannot dictate a winner or loser. When a person comes to a trial and with all the expenses you hope you get treated fairly by the judges. I don't think I would ever go back to that club again.

danny i agree i been guilty of using the cell phone but your right talking or texting is wrong in my book should be inforced as a rule
but from now on no more cell phones for me during the hunts and i do the best i can but it was a mistake

Guys it's reasons like this that I stopped running little pack....There are to much B.S. that goes on with alot of the judges... The ones that do it right and work there butts off my hats off to you..And I do know a few that are awsome judges. I know it's hard to judge dogs that fast for I'm a judge as well But as for the judges that are just lazy well I won't say... You are NOT Allowed to judge dogs by sound thats why they have colored collars on them.. There are alot of lazy ones out there and they do it just to make a buck and thats wrong.. Get them out.. Thats why LP is slowly dying..I would have filed a formal protest for sure...

I was on a cast in WV a month ago and the judge was using his cellphone. I was a spectator on the cast so I could not protest. I bet it was the same fellow.

I run pkc coon hounds and it is illegal to evan carry a cell phone on a cast[judge or handler].I also run lp and I am a judge also but it is deffently wrong for a judge to do that.I would of protested.

Big Al, did this happen to be at Cottageville/Ripley. If so was the guy skinny, and sorda red headed? And were you running near a church, because i was on a cast a month ago up ther also, and all his(judges) cell phone did was ring, But i do give him credit. Because everytime a hounded barked he was on top of things, even though his phone was ringing.

If he wants to judge by ear get a box of bullets sit on the tailgate and run dogs then you can talk and text all he wants . But don't do it that way at a hunt give all your attention to the dogs don't cheat them the dogs will always be your friend unlike some of their handlers . Some clubs after having repeated problems with certain judges are asking them not to judge or to judge with someone else . The MOH has the right to do this it's in the rule book . If you let the bad judging continue it will cause people to get pizzed off and not come back to your club . The club that I belong to is doing this with the " problem judges " we are hoping that if the " bad judges " don't like it they won't come back to that club . If all of the clubs do this maybe the "bad ones " will just go away .

HONESTLY,I DID NOT WANT TO FRONT THE GUY OUT,AND I WILL NOT SAY WHO IT WASMHE KNOWS WHO HE WAS,BUT THE THING IS,WHEN THE BOY WANTS TO BE,HE IS PROLLY ONE OF THE BEST JUDGES OUT THERE,HE IS FAST,AND HE IS HONEST,BUT YOU CANNOT JUDGE DOGS FROM 100 TO 200 YRDS AWAY BY EAR,AND EVEN ASKING THE HANDLERS,"WICH DOG WAS THAT?" AND SCORE IT.

LIKE I SAID,WHEN HE WANTS TO BE,HE IS THE BEST,AND I WILL TAKE HIM AS A JUDGE ANYDAY,I HAVE REFUSED TO RUN UNDER JUDGES AT THE STAKESMBUT WITH THIS GUY,I TAKE MY CHANCES,HE CAN JUDGE WITH THE BEST OF THEM,BUT LIKE IN A POST ABOVE,THEY GIVE YOU 5 DIFFERENT COLLARS TO JUDGE WITH,I DONT EVER REMEMBER A JUDGE ASKIN WHAT DOES DOG SOUND LIKE,THEN WRITING IT DOWN.

IF I DONT SEE IT,I DONT SCORE IT.

EXAMPLE,DENVER RIDDLE AND I WAS JUDGIN AT THE NORTH AMERICAN,THE DOGS WENT INTO AN AREA THAT WAS THICKER THEN THICK,NO WAY WE COULD GET THROUGH,WE HEARD 2 CHECKS,KNEW WICH DOGS IT WAS,BUT WE COULD NOD,AND DID NOT SCORE IT,WHEN WE READ THE SCORE,WE TOLD THEM,GUYS WE ARE SORRY,WE MISSED TWO CHECKS IN THERE,WE KNOW WICH DOGS THEY WHERE,BUT WE CANNOT SCORE WHAT WE DONT SEE


AND FOR THE RECORD,THE CECKS WHERE ON THE 1ST AND 2ND PLACE DOGS,SO THEY WOULD NOT HAVE MADE A DIFFERENCE IN THE CAST,BUT IT DID NOT MATTER.........

Why would you be on a cell phone if you are judging? Danny if you and denver knew which dog was getting checks, you dont have to see it.Just my opinion for what its worth... If i am 110% sure on the dog i will give the check especially on top of it? Thats just me... As far as the wimpering on your other post i recall out of 30
people there was 2 of us that would not strike it.There again thats just me ....Dont ever be scared to do the right thing use common sense .Its needs to be applied more often than not.

If you wanna judge by sound then run UKC... But If I remember right the only time your allowed to ask anyone about a dog to score off sound is on a strike if you don't see what dog was struck in...In my opinion you are there to judge so judge and do it by the rules... If you need to yap on a cell phone then go back to the master of hounds and tell him you need to talk on the phone and can't judge this round so they can get someone who will do it right...Guys I can't see how this is even really open for discussion.... We all know the rules and so do all the judges....So whats the deal he was wrong...
