UR OPINION? UKC HUNT DISPUTE

Post by erik_herndon »

OKAY...I WAS AT A UKC HUNT A FEW MONTHS AGO....AND THE JUDGES DOG STRIKED IN...HE HAD ABOUT 10 SECS LEFT IN HIS CHECK BEFORE HE HAD TO MINUS HIS STRIKE....AND A STRAY DOG POPS UP ABOUT 50YDS FROM HIS DOG AND IMMEDIATLY CALLS INTERFERANCE...AND CRICLES HIS STRIKE POINT...DID HE DO THE RIGHT THING OR DID HE TEAR ME A NEW ONE?

Its OK that is how it is done. I had a guy judging me at the McVay hunt, his dog was on the clock with very little time left, he called interference because of a road, but the dogs were headed toward us.He still got beat, he couldnt win with the pencil alone.

It's called CYA , or in this case CYD (cover your dog). choose the one that applies.

The dog has to interfear with the cast before you call it,and it should have gone to a vote anyway.

It has been my view, that if you wanna win more often in UKC......be a judge. That is the problem with a hunting judge. Seen alot of odd  calls during hunts that affects the outcome if the hunt. Like Big Mike said, CYDA if you can is the way it goes!

Quit UKC's Hound and Hunter format if that bothers you. I saw too much of this in 4 years of running that format. It almost made me quit the sport all together and start bashing trialing. What helped me was changing to a format that better suit me.

I suggest you try AKC's Midwest SPO's, ARHA's Little Pack or Progressive Pack or if you still like UKC, try their new Perfromance Pack. At least try some of them--------or stay fustrated.

i was at a ukc hunt a few years ago with a hunting judge knew very little about the rules i had already got a win on the dog i was running at a another hunt at the hunt i won everybody was very good at explaining the rules as we went along but on this particular hunt i expected the judge to be the same way ya know that judge never did strike his dog in said he couldnt hear her bark but the last 2 or 3 minutes of the hunt he struck his dog in at the time i didnt know any better guess some people will do anything to get a win no matter what it is their self esteem really must be low to try to build it up by winning a field trial still irks me at times just to think about it not trying to bash ukc its wasnt ukc fault its my fault for not knowing the rules jb

well

tell you around here the ukc dogs are the ones that get picked up in akc events have to laugh to see they all finish for tittle hunting champion grand champion the quality of the hounds in my eyes I will not on-er a UKC tittle. years ago I went to hunt and the snow was 2 feet deep and we cast the dogs my dog was trying to run all i could see was his head in the snow jumping track to track well the judges dog ran back and forth on the trail we made going in .I told the judge to go make like he was going kill the rabbit so he score the running dog and he didn't well anyhow we got back to truck and he told me he won because he had more strike points lol what joke it was .I called UKC told what I thought of it .he took points away and i never ran another Ukc event .I did see that that finished for its great tittle lol .

I am akc field judge and will stay where the quality hounds are and can on er there pedigrees I cant imagine 20 years from now and some one reads ukc pedigree and wants to breed some of them hounds due to what they read .
