Judges

Post by kybeagler »

I got a question? Are all the nkc lp hunts having trouble finding judges and getting people to step up and judge? Ive only been to two trials this year and both hunts I judged almost every round. This last hunt I judged every round and didnt even get to take my own dog out. Four of the rounds I didnt even have a helper. But just wondering because if people dont start helping out Id say the hunts won't last much longer. Im young and in good shape so it dont really bother me to judge but I would like to get to take my own dog out. But I seen so many guys at the last hunt that were more than capable of judging but wouldnt judge.

It seems like all of the hunts I have been to in the last year face this problem. I read a thread about everything people expect from judges, and people expect a lot. I guess that is OK, but some of the same people that expect so much from a judge are extremely poor sports.

Every time they lose a cast they scream foul and then they bad-mouth the judge all over the club house. Then here comes the Master of Hounds, back to the judge, asking him to judge the next round.

It is hard to blame someone for not judging when people constantly cry about bad judges, buddy judges, etc. Most of the judges I have run under in ARHA for the past 10 years work their butt off to do a good job.

I share your concern kybeagler and wish the poor sports would just stay home and leave the judges alone so guys like you could run your dog once in a while.

It is hard for alot of people to understand how hard it is judging a fast pack of dogs. You work your butt off keeping up..running through briars just to try and get everything but there are times you can't and when you do someone is so tore up that you missed a check on thier dog. But they aren't concerned with others dogs. People just focus on thier dog in the race and the judge has 5 dogs to worry about. As long as a judge gives a honest effort, then that is all anyone could ask. As for the people that cry about all these judges..all I have to say is at the next field trial..take your judges test and after you judge a couple casts you will have a new appreciation the work these judges do.

Oh and Kevin...
I have seen you judge many times and you always come back bleeding and cut up as much as the hounds. Just wish all judges tried as hard to give a honest effort.

i think it would be nice to have two judges per cast at big hunts for that reason,it is hard to keep up but with two working together it is easier,we are there for the long haul at the big ones so what if it takes an extra day,i would rather have to pay an extra night at a motel than get beat by a check and know that a bunch was missed, but you know me,i am one that gets accused of whining and bit#*ing wich people are realizing now that a lot of that is all blown up.

I judge everywhere I go.

The World Hunt is some tough judging. I try to judge a couple of rounds per day, but a couple of times up there 1 round killed me for the day.

I aint the fastest or the fitest, but I give good effort.

Kevin, Like I said thanks for all the judging you did at Tazewell.

Mike I enjoyed the hunt up there and hope to make my way back up there. I work alot on weekends and dont get the chance to trial alot. I was off this past weekend and got to go to a trial. And now I dont know when my next day off on Saturday is. But one thing is for sure plenty of rabbits and good food can be found in Tazewell. Oh yeah a pretty good bunch of guys can be found there too.

Last hunt we had at our club I served as master of hounds and judged 4 cast , That is way to much for an out of shape , over weight, old man. I had severe leg cramps that night, but I had some good out of town judges help out. We have a hunt Saturday and I'm expecting four home judges beside my self but I'm hoping for six judges beside myself. Every body is just getting tired of the whining on almost every cast. I think the judges are going have to start sending the whiners and their dogs back to the truck to stop this problem.

I dont run LP, I run PP. I see the same thing all over as well as others. I think you are 100 percent right about *** I think the judges are going have to start sending the whiners and their dogs back to the truck to stop this problem.*** That is the only way to cut out the problem. People complain and say they were cheated if they dont win. But if they win they deserved every bit of it and they are now your best friend.
I really think this is the main reason your not getting your judges. Why should guys VOLUNTEER there time and get all cut up , just to take some bull S##t from guys who lost that day. What fun is that?
Just my opinion

Same old problem, same old answers. Going down one way street with no way out. Unless we get the young folks in, and then treat them right, as I said before we will die in a decade from now. Lots of reasons why, but no one wants to help. Everyone wants to run their dogs, and dont care about anyone else.
