Re: 20 gauge
500 or so I want something I won't mind dragging through the brush
Re: 20 gauge
Easy choice then. Stoeger Condor or Yildiz SPZ ME 20.
Stoeger Condor Field & they have a youth model also.

My choice would be the Yildiz SPZ ME 20. They have a youth model also. They also have ejectors instead of extractors. They are only sold by Academy Sports & will not ship even to FFL

Mossberg Silver Reserve II is a little above your budget but they're close. I personally don't like the fit but a lot do like them.

Also just so you know all 3 of these are Turkish made and imported under the various names they are sold here as. Good luck.

Re: 20 gauge
Thanks I had thought about the stoger I have a s2000 thAt has done well for me I was kind of wondering what else was out there
Re: 20 gauge
In that range I would say those 3. You may look at a Stevens 512 gold wing also. All 4 have single selective triggers and screw in chokes. My money would go toward the yildiz or stoeger if I was staying in the $500 range. On a side note, a buddy just bought his son (12 years old) a yildiz spz me 410. That is a sweet little gun. One tip, whichever you choose as soon as you get it, give it a good coating of True Oil. It may take a couple doses. That instantly increases the looks dramatically & will give a lot of scratch protection from brush & briars. They come with a matte wood finish that will scratch easily but the True Oil makes them much more resistant.
