I raised Scooter from a pup and he was always my go to dog when the scenting conditions were not the best. I now have a few dogs with as good of nose power as him so the necessity of keeping him is not there. He is not mouthy at all and runs a very, very clean line with a machine-gun chop. He will jump rabbits on his own but not what I would consider a natural jumpdog. I run in the AKC Midwest and I was hoping that he would pick up speed but I'm afraid it just isn't going to happen.

There are two (what I would consider) faults with him.....

1. He anchors in the check too much and will not reach at all. He stops right at the point of loss and searches from there but does not search very far out which then leaves him caught out with hard hitting check dogs and he plays catch-up until the next check. I have seen him not even pay attention to those dogs and continue from the point of loss and "run his own rabbit"....I packed him hard and he started pulling to the dogs but with 1 or 2 dogs he is going to run independently of them. Sometimes this helps him when running with faulty dogs....Other times it hurts him. He is a very nice dog to run pups with because he is not going to burn them up.

2. He can be timid around large groups of people (ie trials). It is almost as if he acts immature....maybe he will grow out of it if taken to more trials or if someone who doesn't trial buys him they won't have to worry about it. He has had rabbits shot over him so no problems there.

I will tell you anything you want to know about Scooter...nothing to hide, just a very clean running dog who is not suited to do what I want to do and therefore he does not get run as much as my other dogs. He can solo a rabbit by himself and is just a real nice rabbit dog. Maybe in a slower format he could become trial material but he is just not hard hitting enough to run in the midwest. He is about 15" on the button....

Here is a picture of him as a pup...I will try to get a current picture if needed

Good looking dog. On a scale of 1 to 10, about what would you say his speed is? Will he bust the brush, or wiggle around it?

He is probably a solid 5...most of my other dogs are around a 6-8. Don't get me wrong, he has the foot to keep up with a faster pack but when running by himself and really holding the line he is more like a 5. The 6-8 speed dogs are pushing him when packed. Where the 6-8 dogs shine is heading out of a check.

I would not say he is a "brush buster" but he does not skirt the brush to pop in front of the other dogs....he runs the line. A jump dog he is not...if he runs across a rabbit he will jump and run it but he is not going to crawl under every brushpile or wind rabbits out of there hidding like a true "jumpdog".....he is a very good track dog.
