Well Wildhare because as I stated in my post I don't believe a hunter will sell his best dogs and I'm not interested in trials or titles it is my opinion that if you can find a rabbit dog that is absolutely broke at best the dog will be solid not anything special. I would not pay more than $500.00 for a dog like I just described because again I don't believe an above average rabbit dog can be bought. I have 5 dogs here that can't be bought period, now there not worth what I have been offered for them but there not for sale.
JB, you're wrong. A rabbit hunter will sell his best if the price is right and the home she goes to is right.Rabbithoundjb wrote:First a hunter or someone who knows dogs won't sell what they feel is their best.
second trialing is what has drove the price of these hounds up just look at what your saying to justify those prices.
Third I have no prblem with trialing I'm sure some good fellowshipping goes on at trials but trials don't determine the best rabbit dog they recognize the best trial dog.
Fourth I haven't seen in this thread where either of these dogs have been guarenteed to only run rabbits with a trial period associated with the sale. What it has said is the trial records and what you hope to get back finanially on your investment.
If you have the right bloodlines and can consistently produce quality hounds and are breeding to improve. Yes, you can sell your best. Knowing that you have the ability to reproduce and repeat your past success.
As far as trialing is concerned, it helps the marketability of the beagle. Unless you want backyard bred, alley running dogs then no, you don't need good bloodlines that have produced in trials and or under the gun. I'm glad trialing has driven the price of beagles up, something needs to. If you look around, beagles sold to the gun hunter are the cheapest dogs on the market. If you think I'm lying go to a reputable kennel and price a Lab pup out of champion bloodlines. Do the same for a pointer or setter. Price a Bloodhound pup for a pet. You'll have to get on a waiting list and complete an application that could be denied. As long as you want a dog that will chase a rabbit, keep buying those $50 dogs. Beagle puppies are the only dogs that are priced more as a pet than what they are sold for as a potential hunting dog. Do you see anything wrong with this picture? I do.
Yes, dogs can be like any other financial venture. You get out what you put in, but on the average, you're good if you're just breaking even.
So let me ask you this, who plays the game to lose? Financial Investors, Real Estate Companies, Construction Companies, Land Developers, Athletes? No. Beaglers, maybe. When you consistently invest money into a venture that has no growth or profit potential, someone once said, "a fool is born everyday."
No this wasn't my fight but if Joe wants to sell his dogs for what he feels they're worth, be it $5 or $50,000, so be it. The choice to buy it is yours. Hey, if he likes, he can give them away too, and not have to explain his actions to anyone.

Well BJK I've never looked at beagles as a buisness, I view it as a sport or a hobby and the love for the wild and just being out there. Obviously you don't and that's your choice and your intitle to your opinion but I still disagree. I have been linebreeding my dogs for years and I have reproduced fairly well and I have had some that could not be bought.
I was stating my observations of what I was reading in the previous posts. What I saw in the posts and what I thought was missing and as I told you I believe I am intitle to my opinion now if you or greenbay can get this price for your dogs more power to you.

FC Green Bay Lambeau has been sold, yet is still for sale. Please call 608 448 8939
Beau has been hunted at least one day a week so far this season. Sunday we will be hunting a valley that produces usually about 20 to 30 kills. All the guys will be using 12 guage shotguns and there are usually about 100 shots fired, do you think he's a gundog? Lambeau is an awesome dog so I don't care if he is ever sold.
