How the heck is anyone going to knock this man for doing his part to better the breed. I think what the man is doing is a great thing and if more people were this way you may see a differnce in un desiarable traits being produced in todays registerd dogs. 100% agree way to go brother. Thank you for doing your part to better the breed.
I have done the same thing for mouthy and lack of hunt. Gunshyness and over 15" well they get treated a lil differnt.

So the breed is bettering its self by throwing the papers away but passing the dog on to some one els .... I don't care what u all say if the dog is not worth it's papers then It don't need to b past on has a hunting dog ..... House pet sure understand .... For a man to pull papers off a dog and give it away is kind of funny...like I said before akc needs to stand up and stop all the bs... If u all don't like it get over it.... It's bs throwing a dogs papers a way then giving the dog away !!!!!

Ok I just have to ask Highway 30 what would you like AKC to do about this, house checks on every registered dog to make surethe papers are with the dog.

I find it a bit ridiculous that Tom is telling the full truth and getting flack for it. If he would have said grade beagle for free not a word would have been mentioned .

So hwy30 you thank every dog is intital to the papers of akc. but papers is only 25% of the 100% of the dog so if the dog dose not hold up to it part it dose not deserve to registered with akc and by tom keeping the papers is not breaking any rules as long as he throw the papers away Keep up the good work TOM of better the the akc registered beagle

I could care less about papers on a dog unless I was a seller. I quit giving my money to akc years ago. Pencil and paper all u need to keep your dogs age, bloodline, etc..
too many folk frown on a grade dog.

Some of the best hounds in the country are done this way. If you are ever around lion hounds out west a lot are grade dogs that sell for big money . And it's a sacred thing with those guys to know that the dog is what it's said it is and most keep pen and paper records. I do this on my akc dogs to save buyers a little money on registration. They prob do a better job than a registry. I feel bad for tom. In my eyes he was truthful and now has to deal with this. It's one of those things that if you don't like what I'm doing move on and look somewhere else. It's not like he was asking for a set of papers for a grade hound . That I could see a problem with.dave404 wrote:I could care less about papers on a dog unless I was a seller. I quit giving my money to akc years ago. Tom, thanks for being honest. I have done the same thing with dogs, but I guess since they went as pets that was ok according to hwy 30.
Maybe we need an ignore button on here.

Me thinks ya'll gets very harsh with you're words very quick.
Rowdy brought up a deal that was somewhat on the same road, he took a hound on trial that ended up staying with his dad. Latter, when his dad didn't want the hound, he offered it up after telling me I could have it and Ricky still had the papers so I could settle with him on that deal. It became a mess when John said his grandson wanted the hound and that's the way it went.
Now, had Rowdy gotten the papers when his dad decided to keep the hound, this would never have happened, but the papers were left with Ricky unpaid for and enough people got involved to stir up a mess.
I once had a hound named Lelawana, she was a good one till she hit three yr old and then became independent and tied to the line, only patch I've had that way that wouldn't pull up and run. Well, I bred her to Casey at 2 yr old and got Hammer who was runnerup at one of the Eliminator trials.
What I'm saying is, hounds can change for the better or worse as they age and develop. This young hound of Toms could go either way also, I hate to see it wasted AKC breeding or what might become in the future, but that's all up to the owner what he feels like the breeding is worth and how confident he is in his judgement of the hound.
If the majority of the pups in the litter had this problem then it is probably a good choice as the odds and percentages are showing against this cross. But there are some crosses that have too much nose and to little age and excitability for a while to go with it till they mature some. I don't like it either, but thats the way some progress.
I think Tom's a good guy and he's had past experience of being taken advantage of, so it's not unwarranted for him to be skeptical and over cautious. Like I said, it's his hound. Others are just opinions, nothing more. The hardest thing is to take back what's already been said.
Happy running with the pups...
