AKC 3 YEAR OLD PATCH FEMALE

Post by Ravenrunner »

Sissy is a broke AKC female, that can run by herself or with a pack. This is dog is in excellant shape. She has been ran 4 to 5 times a week. I gun hunted her and killed alot of rabbits from her. She has a good mouth, speed and handles real good , all you have to do is tone her. Reason i'm selling her is i have to many dogs or she wouldn't be for sell. Price is 450.00 1-606-447 3282 after 5:00P.M.

Josh,
Marra's(sandy valley) have hounds you'd like, don't know if they have any since the boys are in sports now.
Dick Rollins(Va.) got some hounds years ago, good stuff, but haven't talked to him in long time.
I got two 11week puppies to let go but they awfully inbred but so was Aunt Sib... ;)

I ran with Magnum up on the Island, he was a good hound, big mouth. only fault he wasn't quite straight in the front end.

Yeah he was a little turned out on the front end but believe it or not I had a couple of litters out of him and he didn't pass it on. Now that's not too say that it won't show back up but who knows. It has just been hard to find the blood that I like and close bred hounds never have scared me if the right ingredients are used. I remember the Marra's and kinda remember which way they were breeding. You know me, I like em big and houndy!!! Good talking to you!!!

One fellow was using a bitch with a bulldog bite for breeding, none of the puppies showed it. Then the fellow got out and quit breeding, well guess what, those that liked his breeding are bring those hounds back together with the bitch in the pedigree and wonder where the bad bite is coming from.
One fellow in Va called me about a young bitch he had that was a demon running rabbits but she was benched legged, he ask, "should I breed her"? I said only if you want more like her. My advice was to spay her and enjoy her for the time she held up for hunting and family enjoyment.
Same thing goes for cherryeye, hernia's, bad mouth an legs,... when these hounds are bred an become concentrated in the family because of wrapping up of the blood, you'll get paid with interest with what's allowed to slip by from the not to distant past. jmho

There are always those who seem to take a bit of the truth as a slam against a hound. To me, knowing as much about a hounds good and weak points guides in just how much of that hound I want to see in the pedigree and if a hound I'm working with has any of that same weakness, maybe another hound would be better used so as to not give the potential to compound the problem in the offspring.

I liked Magnum and Don was a great guy to hunt with, lots of fun.

Yeah I've been around alot of these dogs/hounds to know that everything culminates when breeding especially linebreeding. I was just making conversation not neccesarily indulging in my breeding practices. Good to hear from you!!

Not directed at anyone in particular, an maybe sometimes I say to much. It's a fault I have with these hounds but I value the information I've gotten from those earlier houndsmen that handed us what we have to work with today and hope to keep it going.
My opinion won't buy you a cup of coffee... :D

Charles, well said!

Back in the early 90's, I had a great male out of Apatchy and Dunns Little Red.
Duke had the bad bite which my Vet pointed out immediately when I took him in at 8 weeks old. I was young and new to breeding and believed the breeder of Duke when he told me not to worry about it and breed him when he matured. Well, Duke championed out rather quickly in ARHA, UKC and had points towards AKC champoinship by 2 years old so I bred him to get some pups. That bite came back and haunted me until I culled everything with his blood out of my kennel.
I gave Duke to a young kid locally (without papers) with the understanding he was a superb hunting dog but NEVER breed him.

Just a lesson I learned long ago and I check every pup whelped in my kennel and every pup trade I make ever since. I never want that in my kennel again!

It cost the same to feed a good conformation hound as it does one with bad conformation/major faults.
I am a true believer in breeding to better the breed and breeding a hound with major faults is not bettering the breed.

JMHO
