Re: warfield reds
Don't mean to be a wise $ss but here we go with the old "Warfield Reds" again! Warfield Red died back in the mid 1950's.Do the math, that's over 50 years ago. How many "Warfield Reds do you think you can actually find today? Just because they're red beagles doesn't mean they are the same!!!!

Re: warfield reds
I doubt if anyone living remembers Warfield Red. According to his picture, he wasn't red.

Re: warfield reds
This topic comes up about every few months or so. And as I understand it Warfield Red was a tri-color that lived 50 - 60 years ago and was named for the guy that managed the kennel. The name is catchy and evolved from a reference to dogs out of Warfield Red to a discription of a hound color, regardless of bloodline - just like saying "bluetick" or "lemon." The dogs that i have seen that are referred to as "Warfield Red" are the Tan, Red and White or Chocolate, Red and White.

Re: warfield reds
I think it was Wallace Bennett up by Terre Haute IN. that had Red. Mr. Bredemeir told me he went up and bred to Red one time and the story of the kennelman is true. He also told me, "of all the hounds I've bred to, no hound has done so much to improve my line and puppies as when I bred to Barefoot King Patch". I wish he was still around to talk to, I really enjoyed the time I had with him. He truly enjoyed his hounds and the beaglers he shared time with. I was proud to call him a friend, never heard him say a ill word towards anyone and anyone who had done him wrong, he spoke more out of a feeling of sorrow, then any kind of spite. He was a jewel you happen upon only rarely ...
Rev.Parks did a article on Red I think, and another on a son of his that was a colour of grey I think. The Spike & Ike story ran the line back to Red also. It's in the old Rabbit Hunter Magazines, I'm sure...
