Looking for GUNDOG

My buddy is looking for male/female doesn't matter and papers don't matter.He is looking for something that will hunt the thick stuff and circle a rabbit on its own or with company.Not looking for a lightening rod.Medium to upper medium speed.Something that will hunt with you and not all over the place.NO DEER.Something that will come right back and tell on other dogs if they are running trash.Also minds well.Must run dog before purchase.He is 66 years old and just lost two dogs tonight because they wouldn't come to him.He needs a good all around easy to handle dog.Cincinnati, Ohio area or not to far from there if poss.He has been run through the wringer like many of us have, so if you think you may have something that will suit him let me know.Thanks Jim
