Introduction

Post by Van-Mar Beagles »

Hello everyone,

I have just joined this list, but have been a 'lurker' for some time. I am very interested in breeding and showing beagles in mainly conformation, but also obedience, rally, agilty and lure coursing.
I live in NorCal and am a member of the Blossom Valley Beagle Club and have been showing dogs for the past 5 years. Currently I raise Labradors, but my interest has turned to the beagle breed and I hope that it will become my forverer breed. I hope to aqcuire my first -but certainly not last- beagle in a year or so, when I find the right one.

We have Labs and beagles. They do well together. I cant imagine being without either, though I will admit to being a relatively new lover of beagles. Our oldest will be 3 come march and we went from no beagles to 3 beagles in less then a year, and recently added 6 more with the birth of our first beagle litter.

Thanks everyone.

I have many mentors who I am grateful to for continually helping teach me everyday. I co-own a bitch with one of my mentors who happens to be one of my very best dog show friends now.

I have some plans in mind, and hope to acquire a bitch in about a year or so.

Happy Holidays! :)

Welcome.
I assume lure coursing is running a scent drag?

Lure Coursing is a Sight Hound sport primarily.(Grey hounds, Saluki, Borzoi,Afghan, etc) a whte rag is tied to a pulley and wire system, That is then put into motion and the dogs chase. Think sight chase on a cottontail (LOL)
many other breeeds also enjoy that game.

Yes it is for sighthounds primarily. However I have seen many beagles enjoy it very much. I also have a boxer friend who has a lure coursing title on one of hers. I believe in trying as many venues with my dogs as I can, not just the show ring, though that will be my main priority.

Yup, many breeds can compete and enjoy lure coursing..but it is how Sight hound field trials and hunt test are conducted. in the Early 1980's(?) I had a Brittany qualify at a lure course hunt test match, and do very well..but as a venue it is primarily for Sight Hounds.
