Ok, I am considering entering a couple of shows coming up here, just for fun. I have a couple questions. First, she has one eye that has a tear stain, what is the best way to clean this up. Also is there a way to keep it from happening in the first place? Only one of her eyes do it. Second, regarding clipping of lemon and white, do I only clip the white areas (I know whiskers and such)? 3rd... how do I improve her "brush" tail? Entering deadline is the 17th. What papers need to be provided besides Registrations?

nevermind answering the clipper questions, I found the post I had been looking for that answered that. Still wondering about the others though.

Tear staining...

Milk of Magnesia, corn starch and peroxide (20 volume to 40 volume)
Use equal volume of MOM and peroxide, and then use the corn starch to make a good paste of this; put on and work well into the stained area and let dry overnight. Wash out, CONDITION WELL. Keep doing this for several days until tear staining is gone, although I would recommend skipping a day or two between applications if possible. I also like to use a few drops of Nexus KerapHix in this mixture to help with conditioning.

This MOM formula is my personal preference when I do need to remove tearstain color from the face of my dogs. It works quite well overnight.

Having more brush is going to be Genetic. there isn't a whole lot you can do if the hair isn't there. If it is then you can brush backwards and use a little hairspray and let it dry while its fluffed..

gotcha, thanks. I tried a wet comb on it tonight brushing it backwards. It is amazing how much hair there is on that tail. Just a matter of getting it to "stand out" . Thanks.

My dogs spend a lot of time out in the field, so Tails can be a problem. I back brush the tail while wet and spray Garnier Fructis Style gel (The green apple smelling human hair product) on the tail. Once the stuff is dry I back brush the tail to remove any residue and leave the tail full and natural feeling.
I have never tried the MOM formula for tear stains will that work on a dog that is tan in that area or only on white dogs?
As to whiskers ....I feel that shold be personal preference....I leave the whiskers on..they are a sensory organ for the dog..and they are so pesky to cut! I recently finished a girl with her whiskers on and the only comment I had was from a judge who also field trialed fox hounds wanting to know why? She still got the points
The important thing is to GO and have FUN and be proud of your dogs!

I too have "moral" issues on the whiskers thing. I used to trim them on my horses, but my horses weren't out running in the dark or out hunting rabbits in the brush. Especially the ones around the eyes that warn them to blink and duck if something is getting too close to the eyes. Being that rabbit season is upon us and we are only doing it for fun, I am still tossing this one around.

I trim mine but, I have no problem with someone leaving them on. Lots of beagles have finished with Whiskers on. If I were judging it wouldn't matter a hoot if they were on or off. That goes for dewclaws too although I prefer them taken off.

I am adamant about dewclaws. I have had to do too many cases of first aid for torn dewclaws. For me it isnt so much about looks as it is wound prevention.

I have seen this Angel eyes advertised before. I always wonder about adding things to feed. Have you used this product? Only one of her eyes do it and none of my other dogs do. That is what makes me scratch my head.

I would want to get to the bottom of this. It could be a clogged tear duct or perhaps distichia (extra eyelashes) When you roll her bottom eyelid down on that eye do you see eyelashes folded inward? (entropian) If the tearduct is clogged which would cause the tears to flow over the bottom lid then the vet can flush it out.

Yes, I recently started using it on my Joe dog and it's starting to work. It's 100% natural made from beef liver, wheat and dye free. Wish I had started a month before the Nationals. It takes a few weeks to work. It prevents your dog from contracting Ptsyrosporin (Red Yeast).

I sell it in my shop for 21.95...they sell it online for $24.95 plus shipping but businesse's and BREEDERS can get a package deal.
