The constructive criticism is what I was waiting to hear - that is why I put that picture here. I was wondering what to do with Shasta's tail - she has kind of a fine coat but it is hard coat as well plus she is so fine-boned; now the bushy tail that my neutered male has is beautiful but Shasta needs help with hers.

.
It seems to be a "female issue" to me....something to do with hormones. Right now Honey has a STICK tail because she has lost all of her undercoat after having her pups in June. She feels dry as a crisp! Although her coat is shiny and healthy I do miss the soft fluffy undercoat ;)
I also notice that my girls get stick tails, to a lesser degree, after their seasons even when they aren't bred. ;)
It's a girl thang

Can you send/post some pix of them? Pedigrees? Sizes, etc., Maybe someone on here might want one to get stated showing? ;)
Joe's going to PA this weekend to show. He needs a bitch soon...been awhile and he's been a good boy...oh, I also got him and two of my CH. bitches debarked due to neighbors complaints! Huge improvment...his little daughter that I kept is gonna need to have some volume reduction when she's old enough too!!! What a mouth on that child!

That's one reason I sold the sire of these pups. He likes to bark. I hate to keep bark collars on them all the time. It will usually cause sore places on the neck eventually. I'm trying to keep only dogs that are practically non barkers in the kennel. That's tuff and I have to let a lot of otherwise good ones go. Most of my neighbors are OK with an occasional bark but wouldn't you know it there are a couple of jerks just across the creek that make all kind of noise themselves but will call animal control in a flash if they hear a dog bark. One is a drunk with a loud motorcycle he cranks up a midnight and the other runs a gas powered water pump all day, makes a helluva racket. Count yourself lucky!

No neighbor problems here!!!! Our neighbor who abuts our running pen is an avid field trialer He keeps about 10 field dogs....we rabbit hunt on his father in Law's land....that is next door to him...going east our next neighbor....Has coon dogs and pointers....and the guy next to him has deer dogs...I don't really notice any barking.. but we do complain about deer dogs showing up and hanging around....LOL

That's a good one, Cindy. How about if I just sell them a fantasy beagle, and they can pay me with fantasy money, and maybe win a fantasy show!!!

Gotta get back to my fantasy football

I'm new to all this but I think Shasta is a pretty girl! :D I think it's perfectly fine to groom to the hilt before starting out, why shouldn't a dog being trialed look topnoch? I just have one question ... I've had to bench dogs that come straight out of the field muddy as heck and have 2 minutes IF I'm lucky to get them ready. They literally run from the field to the bench, forget finding a brush on the way. Any tips on managing grooming in this kind of situation?

WV JAZ, I also run dogs in competition. Wouldn't worry too much about a little mud. I use a waterless shampoo that works really good. Just squirt it on legs and chest suds it up, rinse with water and towel dry. A fairly quick process. I have a hound glove that removes some of the briars etc. Again the show judges at hunts realize the dogs have been in the field so not much of a concern to them.
BEAGLE MAMA, Glad you are having fun with the shows. Would be best to purchase a show quallity dog. When you consider all the money spent for entries, travelling, handler fees?, etc a few more $s for a dog that fits the venue would be a good investment. The female pictured is not show quallity. Short on leg, not built square, poor topline.... Enjoy her as a pet and maybe consider obedience or agility but for putting money into showing it would be best to get a show quallity dog.
Don't believe scratches and the like will be of major consequence if the dog is structurally correct and shows good. At least not at the breed level. To win groups and best in shows perfection may become a factor.

Question :
Leah, Cindy or anyone else that can answer : if you had a CKC champ dog, would you show it and reg it AKC, and it champs... what is that considered in the show business? Just curious. In field trials it IFC (international).

tiffinis, I understand how you see that as contradictory. It is called waterless shampoo because you don't have to use water like with regular shampoo. If a little gets left on wont be as irritating as regular shampoo might be. I prefer to rinse it off by dumping some water on and then dry. I show in UKC and any foreign substances left on the coat is grounds for dismissal. Powdering, using styling gell or hairspray, etc. Therefore I rinse it. Prefer to present them clean. Also my dogs are hunting dogs, show dogs, but most of all they are family companions so I want the pond muck out of em before they curl up on the couch or in the camper for a good episode of lassie or a story from one of their Peter Cottontail books. LOL Best of luck! Dan

What is CKC?? Canadian?
If I had any dog that could be legally registered AKC I would do it if i planned to breed or show the dog.
I have two dual AKC & UKC registered...I won't own anything not at least AKC registered at this point in time.
