Ok, where do I start. I can't remember if I sent one of these already or not. I think so, but that was a long time ago if I did. I guess I will just do a short overview.
Here it goes... I met the ship in Bahrain and was there for a week when we went to Dubai. We were there for a month for some shipyard repairs and had to leave early to go on an escort mission. One of our friendly British ships was having difficulty with its engines so we were dispatched to go down to Salalah, Oman and escort her back to Bahrain. We were there in case she needed a tow. Sometimes we did 8 knots, sometimes we did 3. All in all, it probably would have been faster to tow her, but it ended up not being necessary. I didn't get to see anything on our trips through the Straights of Hormuz, it was always dark when we went through. This is done on purpose. I did manage to catch a Mahi Mahi shortly before we transited the straights on the way back. The chief mate had a couple lines off the fantail and I just happened to look back and saw that there was a fish on, so I brought it in. We had it for supper that night, not my favorite fish, but I wouldn't call it bad. We have been out a few more times, but nothing special was going on. Currently we are back in Dubai (actually Jebel Ali) again for a few more days. One of my classmates is supposed to be on a ship that is coming in tomorrow. It would be nice to see a familiar face again.
Other than that, it is pretty boring over here. I am working and passing the time. Dec 14th can't get here soon enough! The temps are coming down a little, I can't believe that 95 degrees can feel comfortable! That is just not something a cheesehead from Wis should be able to say and not tell a lie, but it is true. It is amazing what you can get used to.
I hope this finds everyone healthy. Take care and God's blessings on your day.
Emery
