Global Warming

Post by RiverBottom »

Does anyone believe...

that we can change the weather?

that taxing carbon won't cripple the US economy?

that we can stop climate change?

that Al Gore really cares about us?

that there is such a thing as "Green Jobs"?

that China and India will fall in line if we lead the way?

that polar bears are endangered?

that anyone really knows what the weather will be like 50 or 100 years from now?

If Global Warming is real why do we need "a consensus of scientists" to say so? I thought consensus was for politics and that science deals in proven facts.

No, they're not.

"Since the 1970s, while much of the world was warming, polar bear numbers increased dramatically, from roughly 5,000 to 25,000 bears, a higher polar bear population than has existed at any time in the twentieth century. "

Environmental activist groups used polar bears and the Endangered Species Act to force their agenda on the Bush administration.

RIVERBOTTOM -
THANKS FOR THE INFO -Climate scientist David Legates said shrinking Arctic sea ice may be a temporary, local phenomenon not linked to global warming, especially as the polar ice sheets in Greenland and Antarctica are not in decline.
I HAVE READ SEVERAL OTHER STIDIES JUST THE OPPOSITE I 'AM SORRY I DIDN'T GET THE SITES I WILL TRY AND GO BACK AND FIND SOME -- THE BIGGEST CONCERN ABOUT GLOBAL FOR ME WARMING IS .......WHEN MR LEGATES SAID IT MIGHT BE TEMPORARY HE ACKNOWLEDGED THEY FACT IT IS HAPPENING...
OUR CLIMATE SEEM'S TO HAVE CHANGED A LOT HERE IN THE LAST 10 YEARS.--BUT I WATCHED A STUDY ON NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC THAT WAS QUITE ALARMING ,ABOUT THE POLAR BEARS AND GLOBAL WARMING IT, WAS INTERESTING TO SAY THE LEAST.
ANY OTHER SITES YOU KNOW OF ,I WOULD LIKE TO READ IF YOU WOULD POST THEM ,T.I.A.
THANKS AGAIN

The whole "green jobs" idea doesn't make any sense to me. Sounds like a contradiction in terms.

Jobs means manufacturing. Manufacturing means increased use of energy which means more CO2.

Cap & Trade will raise the cost of electricity. Windmills have lots of steel in them. Steel takes huge amounts of energy to make. Any business that wants to survive has to do what ever it can to keep costs down. Looks like most of the "green jobs" will be located elsewhere

If we want to keep any color jobs here in the US we need to make sure US companies can compete with foreign countries. The way to do that is to keep costs down. Imposing a huge energy tax on ourselves that our competitors don't have will ensure that most of the new jobs won't be created here in the US.

SOME REALLY GOOD POINTS RIVERBOTTOM,
I THINK THE JOB MARKET WILL GET A LOT WORSE BEFORE IT GETS BETTER,AND I THINK THAT EMPLOYERS ARE GOING, TO TAKE ADVANTAGE ,OF THE CONSESSIONS THAT THE "U A W" IS MAKING AND THE UNIONS GETTING WEAKER,THEY WILL CUT WAGES AND BENEFIT'S MUCH MORE THAN IS NECESSARY.I HOPE NOT BUT IT ALWAY'S SEEM'S TO GO THAT WAY.

Global warming is not solely a US problem but a Worldly problem, we must have a consensus among the World's Countries that participation in pollution control will be followed equally by all, thus creating a level playing field. You can not do the responsible costly things in one Country to control emissions and compete cost effectively with other Countries that don't abide by the same rules, it can't happen. If we're to have a fair global economy, basic rules for emission controls would have to be enforced by Global board of EPA monitoring. It would be redundant for us to tighten limits, while China ramps up it's production of emissions by increased industry being unlimited by EPA standards, as far as pollution control is concerned.

There is so much waste in this Country that we could capitalize on. One thing that has always got my goat is, I've seen perfectly good stores shut down on one side of town and move to the other side and build a completely new building because a new fad business had opened on the other side of town. They keep doing this(chasing the flow) and expanding the city limits and eating up more good farm grounds... :(

I think the unbalance of cost will eventually even out amongst Countries, already China has developed a more middle class society from growth, they want and can now afford more and better things, no doubt their standards and wages will rise following development. Once that occurs, nearness and availability of resources will dictate who can produce cheaper.

We are a spoilt people, we want and waste. When the world shakes, the oceans rise. The great winds blow and the rains from heaven flood and wash clean the land. All these things show me how little we have to say in the matter and how God will have his way in the end. I believe in all things we reap what we sow. The cost is never to high to do the right thing, it is what sustains us.

I AGREE PATCH
THE U.S.A. CAN SET THE STANDARD.BUT SOME ONE WILL HAVE TO ENFORCE SOME KIND OF STANDARD .ON CHINA AND SOME OF THE OTHER COUNTRIES .
