Charles, I think there is a misconception as to what is in our hearts for others here and I would like to try and set the story straight...

As a Christian I believe in helping out poor people, widows, those incarcerated, handicapped, etc...I believe thats our mandate from Christ himself and have absolutely NOTHING against helping those in need...I am also a Little League President, volunteer my time and have for several years to underpriviledged children, coached them, in some cases paid for them to play, paid for shoes for them, gloves, you name it...and I do it for nothing more than the fact that they need the help and if I can, I will...HOWEVER, as a fiscal and social Conservative (leaving faith and religion out of it), I have a HUGE problem with GOVERNMENT mandating and forcing me to pay for those who abuse what was supposed to be nothing more than a safety net. I have been accused here of being insensitive, cold hearted towards poor people and if you KNEW me you wouldnt be able to say those things with a straight face because you would KNOW it isnt true. Whats in MY heart is compassion for the poor and needy, but that doesnt mean that I have to or SHOULD support welfare becoming a lifestyle choice, a career destination if you will...we have GENERATIONS that have done nothing but grow up and get on the welfare rolls simply because they DONT WANT TO WORK...btw, MY career at this time is as a bus driver for handicapped children...sounds like I am truly the devil huh...


You can quote Christ all you want to...he also said to Judas,"the poor you will have with you always" when he got upset that the expensive oil that was used to annoint him wasnt sold for the poor. Of course he knew what was in Judas' heart and it wasnt compassion for the poor but a desire to have the money. What is in the hearts of all those on the government handout rolls?? Is it a desire to work and contribute or is it a desire to sponge and leech?? Actions speak louder than words sometimes.
