Good Post....Quoted above annoys the crap out of me. You either won or you didn't....if you did, you probably earned it.....if you didn't, well you weren't good that day and someone was better and more prepared than you were, suck it up and move on.Schag wrote:Everyone seems to win some kind of award even when they do not deserve it for sports or other extra-curricular activities.
I think every kid should have to attend gymnastics....last night I saw a 9 year old girl receive 40 rope climbs for crying while she was getting screamed at. After the 40 rope climbs the coach made her do "crying strength" (pushups, situps, etc.) for the next 2 hours. The mother of the girl went down and tried to talk to the coach, coached kicked the mother out of the gym and said she could take her lazy daughter with her if she wanted.
Guess what, the girl knew she had slacked and hugged the coach out of respect after practice.
Is it rough to sit there as a parent and watch it...yup...but guess what, life isn't easy and they are figuring it out quicker than most. Coach is teaching them to be winners, if you don't want to do what it takes to be #1 then go find a different sport and don't waste mom and dad's time and money.
