RICHMOND, Va. (WJLA) - Former Virginia Governor Robert McDonnell and his wife, Maureen, were found guilty in federal court Thursday of conspiring to use the gubernatorial office for personal financial gain.

Breakdown: 14 counts against McDonnells
McDonnell joins 8 other corrupt ex-governors

Both Bob and Maureen bowed their heads and sobbed in court.

They could face two decades in prison on the 14-count corruption indictment when they are sentenced
on Jan 6. Both were found guilty on most counts against them, including conspiracy to commit honest-services wire fraud, obtaining property under color of official right, and making false statements.

"Historically sad day for Virginia. We've never had a governor convicted of a felony, and in the entire nation, there has never been a governor and first lady of a state convicted," University of Virginia political scientist Larry Sabato told WJLA.com.

"My prediction was the jury would find them guilty on at least some counts. It's a mild surprise that they have been convicted of so many. But anyone who followed the trial closely knew that things didn't look good for the McDonnells," he explained.

The couple left the courtroom separately after the verdicts were read and remained apart. Bob McDonnell left first and was mobbed by TV cameras before climbing into a waiting blue Mercedes.

"All I can say is that my trust remains in the Lord," he said quietly.

Maureen McDonnell came out later, hugging one of her daughters while weeping loudly.

For Bob McDonnell, on the short list a couple of years ago to become Mitt Romney’s running mate in his White House run, the verdicts underlined a stunning fall from grace that few could have foreseen during his mostly successful four-year run as Virginia’s CEO.

The jurors -- seven men and five women – announced their verdicts in a Richmond federal courthouse in front of Judge James R. Spencer after a month-long trial that exposed embarrassing, private details about the couple’s marriage and their financial portfolio

Big Mike, I'm glad you still visit the board.

Employment report: U.S. added 142K jobs in August

WASHINGTON - U.S. employers added just 142,000 jobs in August, snapping a six-month streak of hiring above 200,000 and posting the smallest gain in eight months.

The unemployment rate fell to 6.1 percent from 6.2 percent, the Labor Department said Friday. But the rate dropped because more people without jobs stopped looking for one and were no longer counted as unemployed.

Employers also added 28,000 fewer jobs in June and July than the government had previously estimated.

The weaker-than-expected figures make it unlikely that the Federal Reserve will speed up its timetable for raising interest rates. Most analysts expect the first rate hike around mid-2015.

August's job gains were far below the average monthly increase of 212,000 in the past 12 months. The slowdown was unexpected after most recent economic data had suggested that the economy was growing at a healthy pace. ***

Still, wage gains have been sluggish since the Great Recession ended in 2009, and consumers remain cautious. Consumer spending dipped in July, the first decline since January.

The biggest drops in hiring last month occurred in retail, which shed 8,400 jobs, after gaining 21,000 in July, and in manufacturing, where employment was flat, down from a gain of 28,000 in July. Transportation and warehousing added only 1,200 jobs, after adding 19,100 in July.

*** Do you think the same Dept of Government experts who were predicting better employment numbers were the ones predicting "Global Warming" for the past few years.

Unlike crooked politicians, those lying Scientists can't get fired nor voted out of office, they continue costing us billions of dollars with their crooked data.

Agreed, maybe they can make room in their cells for this joker as well ?

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska Lt. Gov. Lavon Heidemann resigned from office and ended his candidacy Tuesday, one day after a judge granted a protection order to keep him away from his sister, who accused him of assault. Heidemann announced his resignation at the Capitol alongside Gov. Dave Heineman. The Elk Creek farmer also stepped down as the running mate of Republican gubernatorial candidate Pete Ricketts.

Would you REALLY like to compare lists of politicians with a D next to their names who deserve jail also?

Are YOU capable of that level of intellectual honesty...?

Because IF you are I would actually take the time and post the list of Democrats convicted or accused of crimes worth of incarceration.
The 1st amendment allows the usual liberal narcissistic "I think.." which is how they start all their sentences.

The second amendment protects us from implementing "I think"

The difference is not in the politicians from each party. The difference is in the voters in each party. Show me an Alcie Hastings type character, a Charlie Rangel, a Barney Fag. Barney's problem is not that he is queer, its that he brothel in a government subsidized apt.

Scandal

In 1985 Frank was still closeted. That year he hired Steve Gobie, a male prostitute, for sex, and they became "more friends than sexual partners."[27] Frank housed Gobie and hired him with personal funds as an aide, housekeeper and driver and paid for his attorney and court-ordered psychiatrist.[27] In 1987, Frank kicked Gobie out after being advised by his landlord that Gobie kept escorting despite the support and was doing so in the residence.[27][28] Later that year, Gobie's friends convinced him they had a gay male version of Mayflower Madam, a TV movie they had been watching.[27] In 1989, Gobie tried to initiate a bidding war for the story between WUSA-TV (Channel 9), the Washington Times, and The Washington Post.[27] He then gave the story to The Washington Times for nothing, in hopes of getting a book contract.[28] Amid calls for an investigation, Frank asked the House Ethics Committee to investigate his relationship "in order to ensure that the public record is clear."[29] The Committee found no evidence that Frank had known of or been involved in the alleged illegal activity and dismissed all Gobie's more scandalous claims; they recommended a reprimand for Frank using his congressional office to fix 33 of Gobie's parking tickets and for misstatements of fact in a memorandum relating to Gobie's criminal probation record.[30] The House voted 408–18 to reprimand Frank.[31][32] The attempts to censure and expel Frank were led by Republican Larry Craig (whom Frank later criticized for hypocrisy[33] after Craig's own arrest in 2007 for lewd conduct while soliciting gay sex in an airport bathroom).[34][35][36] Despite the controversy, Frank won re-election in 1990 with 66 percent of the vote, and has won by larger margins until the 2010 Mid-term elections when Frank won by eleven points.[37]

All true and all caused by Democrat entitlement legislation except the wars. You PMB are just like your manchrush Obama trying to shift the blame for democrat failures to anybody else, somebody but like Obama YOU LIE! Bluegrass I thought the very same thing when I read Big Mike's post, thing is no liberal holds all politicians to the same standards so I viewed a response as a waste of my time. Truth is nobody any of us name could be as bad as this administration.
