Nice to see a change up in the judges on the 15" classes.
Good job to who ever got them. Probably be a good turn out for this trial. JMO

When I posted this I didn't know that the judges on the 15" male class was walkie talkie judges. I should've done research before I posted.Chimney Rock Kennel wrote:Nice to see a change up in the judges on the 15" classes.Good job to who ever got them. Probably be a good turn out for this trial. So I guess the dog that won is a walkie talkie. Wow!!! Bold statement. Who is the walkie talkie that won??

Re: Jessamine County - AKC - Berea, KY - Feb 9 thru 12 - MID
I'm pretty sure there is not gonna be a walkie talkie dog win just because there was none there. Most trialers that go to a MID-WEST trial take MID-WEST style hounds and expect to be judged on the MID-WEST format. I do think it was a great idea to change up the judges and so did alot of other people the turn out for this trial is proof of that (32 big females and 36 big males) the MID WEST run off didn't even come close to this, i've not been to a trial with that kinda of turnout in a couple of years. I spoke with the one that got the judges for this trial and he did tell me that he didn't know they was walkie talkie judges when he got them that he was just trying to change it up . Congrats to who ever does end up winning this trial.

Re: Jessamine County - AKC - Berea, KY - Feb 9 thru 12 - MID
Just got back from judging the 15" Dog class at Jessamine County Beagle Club with Jim Fowles. Drove most of the night and pulled into work at 6 AM, after sleeping at Jim's house from 12:45 AM to 4:00 AM. Thanks to Don Smith for the inviting us down to judge, Don has called me several times to judge this trial and I always had a prior commitment, this year I jumped at the chance. When Don called me to judge I explained to him what we looked for in a hound: a dog that could consisently run the same rabbit without losing it. Don explained to me that he looked for the same thing and after watching a couple of his hounds run a few years back I had already known that. Jim and I drove through the night Thursday night to get to watch the big bitch on Friday. We followed the majority of the class, except for the first pack in first series and the first pack in second series. We liked what we saw. This class was judged by Mike Johnson of Pennsylvania and Nate Harris of Kentucky, these two gentlemen did a nice job and put together a very nice winners pack! Both Jim and I have judged with Mike and ran under him, we knew that after watching the whole class run Mike did not change his ways from how he would judge "back home". Jim and I decided that above all else we wouldn't change the way we judged "back home" and apparently that lead to the aforementioned comments.
I have judged several AKC Licensed Small Pack Option trials, as well AKC Licensed Large Pack trials, a few AKC Licensed Gundog Brace Trials, and one AKC Licensed Hunt Test. I feel that I am fairly familiar with the AKC rule book and the formats and standard that AKC provides beaglers to promote and evaluate our hounds, and I never realized that there was a "Mid West format", had I known I would have looked into getting the rule book or standard for this format. I can assure you that in the 150 of so licensed trials I have judged (20 or so the AKC doesn't have on record because I was a fill in) no dog that ever won under me was a "walkie talkie" as you say. I can also assure you that the winning dog and any dog that has ever ran under me ran nothing like this pair of hounds:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNOAo4uNs_s
It sounds to me that the gentlemen that posted this was an ignorant neophite that was a little disgruntled that his hound didn't make it out of first series, as this was posted long before we finished first series.
I had an excellent time, it was great to run into a few old friends and meet some new ones. Again, thanks to Don Smith for having us down and thanks to everybody that let us look at your hounds.
