I was reading this ad thinking that I would like to give PKC a try sometime as the format seems very good to me. My only problem is while reading the guidelines for the world hunt it says that a dog can buy back in twice after it has been beat. Now to me it seems like a dog could beat another dog in the first round, that dog could then buy back in the second round get beat again, buy back once more get lucky and win the third time and then advance over a dog that has beaten it two out of three times. Maybe Im not reading it correctly but that seems a little odd to me. Not bashing or trying to start a negative thread just trying to figure out the reasoning behind this.

I totally understand what you are saying and it seemed a little odd to me at first but here is how I am looking at it now.

Have you ever went through a lot of trouble to qualify the dog and get to the hunt and draw some bad luck? Maybe you didn't run a rabbit or got on the wrong side of a split and it cost you the cast. Just some kind of bad break. With this, you can get a second chance for all of the hard work you have put into a dog. Not just, well, I drove 8 hours and know I am heading back.

I have seen this unfold two different ways in the first two World hunt's we have had. The first year, the dog's that got first and second won their first round right off the bat, won the semi's and went on to finish. Last year, the dog that won the World Hunt was scratched in the first round because she was not caught within 15 minutes after a timeout was called. She was running an Indiana rabbit on the wrong side of a split and the handler couldn't get her back in time. She came back on the second qualifying round and won and the rest is history.

Here is one other way to look at it. In PKC, you have to have a handler to handle and call your dog when it goes out. It's not like say, the Little Pack World, where you could enter five and send them with guys, possibly handle a few yourself, etc. So this is one way, guys can run multiple dogs in this format. Let's say I qualify three dogs for the PKC World. I run the first time and get beat, okay, now I enter my second dog that is fresh and get in. Now, we are in the last qualifying round, I have to decide if I am going to run the first dog again or go with the one that I haven't run yet. Yes, there are some some guys that put all of their marbles in one dog and run him all three rounds, and that is okay if that man is on a mission. For some guys, it turns into quite a strategic plan when you have multiple dogs.

Great question, hope this helps.

Thanks, Tony

So if you win in the first round do you still run in the second and third rounds or does one win in the first three rounds get you qualified for the semifinals?

One win in the first three rounds on the first day will get you in the semi-finals to be ran the next day.

Alright, that makes since . I misunderstood and thought you had to win all three times to move on. It is more like three qualifying rounds.
