Good luck man they had about 20 of us last year get license , they like using same ones almost every time , go figure check out entries way down from what they was back in the day

A lot of Midwest clubs do not have updated judges names and contacts. One thing that AKC requires is the two judges for a class must have judged 10 trials between them. That may be why clubs continue to use the same judges. What the Midwest needs to do is update their list of judges directory on their web site annually. That way all clubs would have access, Midwest or otherwise. Some clubs would like to see and or use new and different judges.

I agree with big oaks, also i am sure there are alot of new judges part of the problem may also be new to the sport? Alot of judges are picked because they are none to other clubs from participating in other clubs. I know from having gotten judges in the past that it is extremely helpful when you can call another club and ask if they have any new or young judges , i have also passed around names to other clubs of guys in our club when they started out judging. If you are new to the sport or just looking to start judging contact a club regardless of format and join or ask if you can marshal at a trial so other judges can see your work and knowledge.

Volunteer to field marshall some trials and judge some derby trials. Demonstrate that you can get around good and have a basic understanding of what your doing. Join your local club and become an active working member. Show up to club meetings and volunteer to judge.

Over a few trials you will gain a reputation good or bad. If you promote the style of dog the club members like you will become a regular, if you dont you will not likely be called back but whatever you do be honest and consistent. Same judges get called back trial after trial because people know what to expect. Very few beaglers will drive long distance to a trial unless they are comfortable with the judging line up. With so many trials available beaglers will pick and choose which ones to attend.

I would like to get back into judging licensed trials; horseback or on foot. My knees seem to be holding up now. I judged trials regularly from 1995-2007. Do I have to take a new judging class or seminar? If so, when is the next one? Thanks.

Nevermind; now I've hurt my back. I used to love judging, but you can't judge what you can't see.
