I have been using Frontline, but it can get expensive with more than one dog. So I have been searching the forum for other alternatives.

My questions is, how effective would tick management be if I purchased the next weight up (23-48 or the 45-88) of the Frontline and then use 1/2 of the amount per applicator on each dog? Does anyone do this?

Does anyone use Pet Armor on their Beagles? How effective do you feel it is compared to Frontline or just in general in managing ticks?

Does anyone use the Preventic Tick Collars on their Beagles. How effective do you feel it is?

Does anyone else have a different tick prevention they use?

Yes. I buy the largest ones they sell and give each one .67cc. The anti gun auction site seems to have the best prices. Ticks are thick in Erie county, but since my hounds stay inside, tick prevention is very important to me. It even more important to my wife. I usually treat April through october, and rarely do they get a tick.

Here in Ohio, I have pick deer ticks off my dogs and myself in January and February if the temperature is above freezing. Even if the wind chill is near zero, I have found crawling ticks.

Where are you in Ohio? I have not yet seen a tick this year, on myself or the hounds here in SE Ohio. Two years ago, they were bad in March, but these last 2 winters seem to have set them back in my area.

You can get clothing made by ElimiTick that will do a good job keeping them off you.

The kits have three tubes containing the Frontline Plus for 89-132 pound dogs, a plastic screw top vial to store the extra unused Frontline Plus liquid, and a oral syringe to measure and apply the Frontline to your dogs skin. The cost per dose is $2.44. They ranged in price from $37.00 to $45.00 per kit.

Same here in guernsey county

Last year I cut a purple cattle tags in half and attached to my dogs collars. Didn't have a flea or tick all year!

That's exactly what I use.

I was considering the purple cattle tags but my daughters like to play with and pet/handle the hounds; so I wanted to get something that wouldn't make them sick!

I use hartz ultra guard plus, from Walmart, about 9 dollars for three tubes. I can do four or five dogs with one tube. I get the tubes for the big dogs 61-150 pounds and just divide it up. Look at the smaller tubes on the rack to see what amount a beagle gets. The tubes have writing on them. The first tube I syringe the amounts out and each time I take a dose out I put a mark on the tube. When done you will have a mark on the tube at each dose. Then the next tube after that I just mark the tube at the same place for each dose, without having to use the syringe. They have three different kinds of hartz at Walmart Mine is the ultra guard plus. I mark the letters on the writing on the tube as my dose amounts.

I do the exact same thing. My vet verified this was an effective method as Frontline in an equal suspension emulsion. Meaning every drop of it contains the same amount of medicine. I get 6 doses out of one tube. It would depend on how many doses you needed on what size to buy. Say if you only have 2 dogs then treat it as 1 50 pound dog for buying the med then give half to each. I have 6 dogs and their weights average about 22 pounds so the big one works perfect for me to split up.
