Just wondering what the guys up north usually call "too much" snow to run in.

When the dogs can't go anymore, this usually is when they are reaching up to smell the track.

We have 8 inches here in ky. Took the dogs out, jumped 2 and couldn't pick up the scent. A couple times they hit for 15-20 yards but no more than that.

i will try in deep snow. usually dont do much good in over six to eight inches. rabbits dont want to run. What usually stops us is when ice builds up and the dogs break through and cut the dogs up.

I have dogs that can run in it...BUT how far will a cottontail go in those kind of conditions..usually straight to a hole.
I ran last Friday at 10 degrees and dry snow...about 4 inches...they made one good circle and in the ground....lol.
Hare...whole different story. They don't hole up often...if at all.

Ran in the adirondacks last weekend, snow was 3-4 ft deep powder. Dogs did great, but gps speed was down to 2.3 mph where it would normally be 6-7 mph. Had a great 3 hr run with only one big breakdown that lasted about 10 minutes. Brutal walking even with snowshoes.

Powder conditions are the worse for us if they are dog-paddling at muzzle height. When the howling turns to whimpers they've had enough

It varies. There are guys that will hunt/run in anything. Then there's the rest that make excuses for not going out, snow's too deep, too cold, too windy, too dry, too wet...etc, etc
