Hello

Post by Big Dog »

Hello everyone I just got back from Iowa hunting cottontails and me, my buddies and my dogs are exhausted, There were 7 people in my party and we hunted 5 days and killed 106 rabbits mostly on private land of different friends we have made over the years of travelling out to SE Iowa. Those cottontails out their will flat out leave the country on you so take some dog power if you go and take 2 packs of dogs. 1 pack will not be able to take it day in and day out for a whole week. I broke my dogs into 2, 5 dog packs and did not have any stamina problems as I alternated packs every other day. I must have walked 100 miles in the last week and I am exhausted, but had a great time.

Woah ! that DOES sound like a good time.On average, about how many hours a day did yuns hunt? I sure wish there was a place closer to me that had numbers of rabbits like that. I'm not seeing the amount of rabbits in my area as there has been the last couple years.I have a couple new places lined up that sound promising acording to the land owners,so maybe things will liven up some.I have better luck in the second season as a rule though. ketcha later, CHH

Hunting time

Post by Big Dog »

We typically hunted from around 8am until about 3pm each day. We were basically hunting hedge rows and the unfarmable land in some of the corn and bean fields which requires a lot of walking and some of those rabbits will take a 600 to 800 meter bean field in a minute which requires the hunters and dogs to cover a lot of ground.

Are we going to get another story about it this year? Would be another good one, I'll bet. If I can ever hook up with Swing again this year, there should be another "Swing's Honey Holes" story...

Sounds like you had a great time!

It will have to be somewhere between Tues the 30th and Fri the 3rd. I will be getting back from Wis on the 29th and have to be in Branson on the 4th (If I remember right). I will also need a babysitter, anyone want to volunteer? How does that work for a short timeframe??? LOL

Sounds like you had a good time Big Dog. I don't know if I've seen that many rabbits in my life, much less get a shot at them.

I look forward to seeing pics.
