I'm Just wanting to see what others may know about this. Have a game warden say one time if you beagle runs a deer and they catch him in the act. That they will shoot your dog and fine you for it. Just wandering if it's true that they can.

Not sure bout WV game laws but Tell said Game Warden that there's also a law in WV BEaglers handbook that anyone who shoots one of your hounds will also be shot on site. No questions asked, just shot on the spot and left lay. He would definitely think twice about pulling the trigger on any beagle thinking it may be yours. JMO

This West Virginia statute mandates that no person shall permit his dog to hunt or chase deer. A conservation officer shall take into possession any dog known to have hunted or chased deer and the director shall advertise that such dog is in his possession, giving a description of the dog and stating the circumstances under which it was taken. The owner then has ten days to reclaim the dog. If after a bona fide but unsuccessful effort to capture dogs detected chasing or pursuing deer, an officer may kill the offending dogs.

Law is intended for wild/abandon/unclaimed dogs. Also, you are not allowed to pursue deer with dogs in WV. Some states have a deer hunting seasons for the use of dogs.
