+ 1 on the juice, and consistant.
Life is too short to run UGLY DOGS
Re: Breaking a 5yr old off deer????
Jim hit the nail on the head! Juice & consistency! Alot of guys overlook the consistency part and it is just as important as the juice.

Ask AKC? They will tell you positive reinforcement can train them to do or not to do anything! lol!

Re: Breaking a 5yr old off deer????
If you have any rappor with your dog at all scold him after shocking off of off game and use positive reinforcement for running the right game. Don't forget to turn up the juice to high on off game and make sure he knows he did wrong.
Thanks,
Bob

Re: Breaking a 5yr old off deer????
Easier to just get another dog.
Like humans, old habits are hard to break. Believe it or not, most beaglers do not have a shock collar and break dogs off of deer the old fashioned ways.
Many times you can check with deer clubs that run them with dogs and often they will have a beagle that will quit running deer on its own and start running rabbits only. This messes up their deer hunts and their deer dogs that go to it so you can get it cheap.
