How many judges do you think are on the same page as the rest when it comes to judging?
Im going to give a scenerio that happened to me yesterday while judging and I am not going to tell how I scored it,, until a few reply to what they would have done.
Ok all dogs are hunting ( 3 dog cast) Dog A jumps the rabbit and B, C join in, they run the rabbit pretty much straight away and have a break down. The 15 seconds elapse and the check is open. Dog A opens starting to leave and does a 360 pretty much and breaks back to my right, the direction dog A started in at first B&C went on with that line driving the rabbit, while A is driving back to my right. I can't tell anymore than that or I will giveaway what I did.
What would the rest of you judges do. I know it would have helped to been there, just try and visualize the best you can. I'm just wondering how many is on the same page when it comes to judging.
I told a guy that was spotting for me yesterday after a cast was run, that I bet that cast could have been judged by 3 different judges and had 3 different winners, there is to many different variables.
I have judged to many cast that were not just cut and dried on how to score them due to how the dogs ran that hour.
Just some food for thot.

1) Were there two rabbits? Could you absolutely determine the original rabbit? If no, call timeout and get the hounds back together.
2) Was Hound A backtracking? Going the opposite direction before the breakdown? If so, after 50 feet minus hound A and instruct the handler to get him back with the other hounds.
Numerous other instances without having the complete scenario or actually being there.

I would give score to the dog that jumped the rabbit. Then at the check I would expect the dogs to work close and quietly until the true check is found. I would demerit dogs with extra mouth or swinging too wide in the check. What does 15 seconds have to do with it? The first one to claim and drive out the loss would get score. If there was a split I would wait to make sure that both had a rabbit and I would score both dogs that produced a rabbit from that check. Then I would stop judging until we get the dogs back together on the same rabbit.
Greg, I believe we're discussing rules for ARHA Little Pack, where no check points can be awarded until the hounds are broke down in a check area for at least 15 seconds.
In this scenario, it's hard for me to picture what you're saying happened Swing. Was hound A backtracking? I just cant picture what you're saying hapened.?.

Greg, No not in ARHA LP. If you have a dog that picks up the check in less than 15 sec. all day long your not going to have much of a score as far as checks go. Thats one thing that I dont agree with LP but I guess they do that to let the judges have time to get to the check area.
Swing,
Your senerio is pretty cloudy.....how about a few more details???????

Well swing. I'm confused
It seems to me that A gets jump and strike points. Then the break down
Dog A does a 360, well that's a complete circle and should be going in the original direction except he is going right. Are you sure you meant a 360, how about a 180 or 270 or a 90. If he started straight away and then went right that's either a 90 or 270. It's not back tracking because it would have been a 180 and come straight back to you.
Dog A is running a deer and should be DQ. B&C win
I'm still confused!

Ok I will try to clear it up a little, the dog I dont guess made a 360, she cut back to her right tho, pretty hard, but B&C kept going in the direction she was first headed(this is L.P.rules) Dog A eventually ended up in the area where the rabbit was jumped but so did B&C, they ended up in the same area.
I did award jump and strike points to dog A.
