I've been looking at the Dogtra 2002 and the classic 70 two dog unit. I live in a very hilly part of the country. I was wondering if you were me and only buy one of these collars which would you buy? I have been leaning towards the Dogtra mainly because of the price. I have found the dogtra for $494 and the Classic 70 xls for $575.
Thx for the help

I have the Dogtra 1804 and TriTronics Beagler and they are equal in range.I can't see any reason not to buy Dogtra, mine has worked flawlessly. I can't say the same as for TriTronics.

i have a dogtra 200 and its half mile range, the reason i like it is because it has 20 stimulant settings so you can use it on a younger dog without scaring them to death with it, i also have a tri tronics sportman 50 and i wouldnt trade the dogtra for 5 of the tri tronics,,,,,,but just my 2 cents,,,,,

I have two of the Dogtra 2002 models and the Dogtra 1804 and wouldn't own anything else. Compact, powerful, user friendly, and most of all reliable.

lonewolf i liked you comment on the Dogtra 200 I have a Dogtra 202 Gold and it works great on a young hound or a hound that don't like the collar, it only has a 1/2 mile range but very good for handleing a hound and not just blowing his mine. It is very important to teach a hound what to do after he is shocked and you can do it with the 200 or 202.

thanks latimar,,,,,,i think young hounds need that extra touch,,,,,,about 3 months i use it on 4 just to lightly tickle them , i had the sport 50 before i bought my dogtra,,,i tried to get a little female to come she was just hard headed and i made where she was shy and wouldnt come but now she is learning to come as called,,,,,i dont go full force with a callor unless they are burning up off game them i yell there name 2 times then juice them up, all my dogs are collar broke but i wouldnt trust none of them without it,,,

I have the tri-tronics 70 xls and I love it.I like the tone feature very much.I find that I don't even have to use the shock treatment on my pup or my adult beagle. They respond great with just the tone but it's nice to know that I can go the other way if need be.I also like the idea that I can leave the charger on and not worry if I am cooking the batteries.
When I was reserching the different units,I was thinking of buying the Dogtra also.It sounded like a great unit too.The only reason that I didn't get it was that the verdic wasn't out on it yet.It was still fairly new.
It sounds like you can't go wrong with any one of the two units from what I am hearing.I think that my only consideration would be price........Ray

I have no experience with Dogtra, but I do have a close friend who has a Dogtra unit, not sure which model he has for sure, but I know he recently bought a new Tri-Tronics unit and not another Dogtra. The one thing I can say is I have had excellent service from the several TT units I have owned. And to go a little further, and this might add to your consideration of which unit to buy....I have had nothing but EXCELLENT customer service from the folks at Tri-Tronics. I had a problem once with a collar on a 3 dog unit and I called them. They sent me a totally new set, including a pre-paid shipping label, and I packed my units back in the box and sent them back to TT, all FREE. I had a new set within 5 days of when I called them. And they even called me about 2 weeks later to make sure I was happy with their service! TT's customer service is second to none. That alone means a great deal to me!!

I can not comment on any but Tri-tronics as that is all I have used. And will second what Darrin has said - the customer service at Tri-tronics is outstanding! It is reasuring to know that they stand behind their product if you have any problems.

Thanks for all the help. I have found a brand new 3 dog classic 70 xls for $559 with free shipping at.
http://www.gundogsupply.com/field70.html.
I know I only have one dog at this point but I know I will end up with more. Why buy another one later. I am assuming this is a good price what do you guys think. If you know anyone that can beat this price or has a great repetation for service let me know. I will get it through them.
Thx
