He died at the vets office. I don't normally hunt this late in the summer due to the rattlers. This pup had the tools to be a good one. The two holes in his face was over a inch wide. Mad at my self for having him out there.

Marvin, I bated to hear that about your pup. John told me the fang marks were huge. We all try to keep our pups going in the summer time to keep them improving. We have lost dogs to rattlesnakes by running in the summer. It's just the chance you take around here. I know that don't make it any easier. I told John it looks like it is going to be a bad year for snakes. It may be time to retire until cooler weather. Sorry for your loss.

Hate to hear that. It's hard to leave a pup sitting all summer cause you know it hurts them the most.

Sorry to hear about your pup Marvin. Them rattlers are why I lay mine up till fall. It is hard on the pups but it's easier than a bite.

Sorry to hear that. We also run ours year round but stay nervous the whole time. We try to keep a snake bite kit with us but when a rattler, especially large one, it is hard to save them.

Haven't been on here in a looooooong time but saw this and I'm curious. I saw where John Maynard (hi John!) commented so I'm wondering if you run over in the Pond Creek/Belfry area. I haven't heard anyone comment about how bad snakes are in the Marrowbone/Ferrell's creek areas this year but I have two old Buzzsaw dogs and a 4 year old and I don't want to lose any of the pitiful pack mine has become.

Hate to hear this Marvin. This is one of the reasons I am glad I live in the area where I do now. Coyotes are more of a worry here than snakes for sure. Growing up in that area, I always got at least one bit during the summer. Now I just wont bring a dog down there to run until october weather sets in. Hope you have another young pup comin up.
