Mu Uncles Chuck and Don and Dad got me hunting; they let me tag along as a kid. Later I carried a BB gun and eventually a shotgun. Then for some reason--probably I discovered girls--the weekends changed. When I hunted, mostly alone, I was a jump shooter and not a very good one. Several years later, a woman we sub-contracted with told me about her step-dad having beagles for sale. That's how I met Jim Preston. Once my pup Annie got old enough, he let me run with him and his dogs. He also got me interested in trialing and the beagle clubs. But mostly I just ran dogs for pleasure and to hunt. Vic Eding gave me a Bredemeier bred female with a good nose. Later we bred her to a dog he knew that had some foot. One of those pups is my trial dog and doing quite well for a young dog. I hope to get his litter mate sister into the trials next year. I lost their mother suddenly last week --perhaps stroke or seizure or something else. Sure would have liked to had a repeat breeding. Thanks to all those, living and dead, who have given me a exciting and rewarding way to spend time outdoors.
