G3 question

When I put mt receiver in the charger and the charger light comes on red and then starts blinking red what causes this?
receiver is about 2yrs old not used much

Mabie to cold,or bad battery.

From the manual:
Problem #8: The light blinks red slowly when the unit is placed in the cradle or adaptor.
The cradle has diagnosed a failure condition in the battery pack being charged. Please call our Customer Service Department.

Battery is bad,Amazon has the best prices on a replacement.
