Terry Long;
My dad went to summer camp at Ft. Riley and took us to the officers club for supper. I was about 12 and they had a seafood smorgasbord with shrimp all kinds of ways. I went back so many times I think I embarrassed him. Larned is SW of Big Bend and NE of Dodge City.

Out in western Kansas its a little more arid climate. Also the wind can be an issue at times unless you can find some timber or a low spot.
