I have some new neighbors that just moved in and I have a mutt that my wife rescued while I was at work yesterday I got a phone from my wife she tells me that my new neighbors walk over to show her a chicken the dog killed she tell them she well puy her up so they left my wife has a bad foot so its hard on her to get around she ask them to wait so the dog would not follow them home they did not while my wife was geting her shoes on she heard a gun shot. I looked around this morning and I found my dog dead they wont answear the door I called the sheriff and he said if the dog kills there animal or they feel threatened they can shoot to kill I no people love there chickens but to wrongs dont make it right I dont no what to do

That's a hell of a way to start off in a new neighborhood.
I think you did everything right, chickens would start disappearing!
Eventually chickens are going to wonder into your yard, and you can return the favor it works both ways.
There was no cause for them to shoot the dog after your wife said she would get the dog, and I am sure
you would have reimbursed them for the dog.

Ya she told them we would we live way out in the country they only had four chicken if it wasnt my dogs the foxes would have got them were we live you have to keep them in a pen or they wont last im just trying to keep my wife at bay heck I run my beagles her alot so I dont no whats going to happen I wohld hate for my beagles to be next they just rent so when they move out guss its time to buy the place I own the whole holler except for the place they live

They should have called animal control.
I don't want stray animals around my beagles or my house.

My beagles once killed a couple of fighting roosters, that were staked out by a neighbour, across the hill. I paid the man $200.0O Thankfully he didn't kill them.

sorry to hear this brad.. as bad as it seems most states if an dog is killing , threataning or worrying livestock it can be leagally shot. not very neighborly to do. but then again i would hate to be the dog after any of the animals at my place.

Just remember what the sheriff said when those chickens come over and start killing, threatening, or worrying your pet bugs in your yard Just add dumplins

If you called animal control here, they would say they couldn't do anything for you. Shoot the dog yourself.

Ya its a sad world we live in I have a huge hear and im forgiveing im just going to try and do the right thing he still wont answear his door guss its for the best thanks for the info guys and the kind words

Brad, Too bad, but it goes far beyond chickens and dogs. You are dealing with a very poor mentality. There is no reasonableness within in them and you will not change them. They have no respect for others property, and they never will, they have the mentality of doing evil if it can be SOMEHOW justified, opposed to doing something only if it is necessary! The harm that these types will do when they believe they wont be caught at it, is endless! Like I said it goes beyond chickens and dogs! Be careful here in any attempt to befriend them though, (their colors will never change they will only mask them!) But do not try to make deliberate enemies either, and Pay them for their chicken!

I have the same problem. Neighbors cats killing rabbits in my starting pen. Guess what, don't want to sound cruel but if I have a gun handy their pretty kitty will not go home any more. End of story. This is different than your situation where your wife tried to retrieve the dog she left loose. At least she was trying. Cats could put me out of starting pups.

I had a nehibor that had fighting chickens i ended up getting some off him and breaking all my dogs off them.

had asamiliar situation .. could never catch them home ..put a note in their mailbox with my number and explained the situation..never heard from them..so I dealt with it I just leave it there lol. and what you know he called me ..we talked his eyes were opened .now were are fine..
