I hunt ohio public and about 75% of the time i go but havent seen a GW in a long time.but i have heard they have more authority then policemen do ! so i wouldnt dout
they can be dog wardens too! a friend of mine was walking across his backyard with his 10yr old son going into his woods deer hunting and a GW slammed on his brakes
jumped out ran across the yard too check to see if he had a plug in his shotgun which he didnt and gave him a ticket about 20yrds from his back door! so i think they
can do it all !lol

I have wondered about this as well. I have never been asked for dog tags and I have ran all over the state of Ohio. Mine always sit on top of my refrigerator from the time I get them until the new ones arrive :bash:

Been checked for my hunting tag but not my dog tags. I do have my dog tag on my leash but its not my dog. wonder if this is the crime of the century and would land you in front of a judge or fine.

If you get a kennel license, they only give so many tags. Not one for each dog you own.

Have only been checked by a game warden 3 or 4 times in 50 years and i hunt public hunting areas about 4 times a week. I don't put my dog tags on the dogs collars because I take the regular collars off when i put the gps and shock collars on when hunting. Maybe I should put the dog tags in the truck.

I'll probably put my new dog tags on the gps collars so that every time out the dogs will have a license on them. Problem solved. Thanks for the heads up.
Thanks,

In Ohio tags are done differently by county. When I was in Motgomery County, I got 4 tags with my kennels license and the clerk hand stamped the rest with the same number as the first tag of the 4. I don't remember the exact cost, but it was pretty expensive and took about an hour and a half.

I got my 2014 tags today, here in Champaign County and each tag comes prestamped with a different number. The first 5 come with the kennel license for $70.00 and the other tags are only $1.00 each. I was in and out in under 5 minutes.

I now always purchase a few extra tags, in case I lose some, while running dogs and to put on other peoples dogs I am working with.

I have never had a game warden check a dog tag.

Yell I use to get Kennel Tags but the County the I live in you can't get them anymore. And MY Tags took a big jump in Price and
know you can purchase your dog tags for 3 years or a $ 180.00 for the life time of the DOG if it's a Hunting Dog.

Had two different wardens come up to me this season on wildlife areas, had 8 dogs on the ground one time and 6 the other and they never asked about tags. As a matter of fact I asked each if they wanted to look at my Hunting Lic. and they both said that if I was asking they figured I had one and that nobody would show up with that many dogs without one.

I do have tags for each dog, I also get a Kennel Lic. but I don't put the tags on the dogs. I carry the paper copy in my wallet and the metal tags are in the truck.
