I have a 7 ½ month old Butkus pup that has been drooling in the dog box since his very first ride. It isn't car sickness, but seems to be anxiety related. When he gets close to the truck he starts drooling, even after he has been running and he is headed back to the truck. This has been going on for over three months. When I took him home when I bought him he did got car sick about six times but, he was in a dog crate on the front seat not in the dog box. I have tried everything I can think of. Putting him in and out of the dog box all day, tying him close to the truck, taking him for rides all day. If anyone has experienced this problem and has a solution please let me know because I haven't and I am getting tired of cleaning up drool in the dog box.

i believe they sell dramamine for dogs try that. it will relax him which should help with the anxiety but im not sure what it will do to his ability to run so i would try small doses at first

I have a 7 month old that did the same thing, the Dramamine made him lazy but he still drooled. I just kept taking him everywhere I went in the dog box, and always talked to him when I put him in. He still does not like the box, but no longer drools all over himself.

Vet had some drops I gave a female I had once that worked for anxiety, don't remember the name. I gave the pup away because of it, after she grew up she never gets sick any more. Wish I kept her. Vet said most of them grow out of it.

Most will grow out of it,I use carpet remnants on the floor of the dog box until they get over it,it sure can be a mess. Al

i have a butkus male did the same thing at a young age. he grew out of it and also putting him in the box with other dogs helped keep him from doing that. He had no choice but to get in the dog box drooling or not

My female drools too although she is getting better. She's about 18 months.

I didn't think Dramamine was going to work because it seems like it is anxiety not motion sickness. I was using a rug in the dog box too and just hosed it off but with turning cold it isn't an option anymore. I have been put newspaper in there but it is still a mess to clean up. Newspaper is sopping wet but I can roll it up to get it out of there. Looks like I am going to have to be patience and hope he quits.

Here is a picture of him tied to the dog box. The truck never moved and he was there for less than 5min. This is why I think it's anxiety and not motion sickness.

Had one that died it till we put him down, not the normal from what I have seen, but some grow out of it.

I would continue to take him, maybe feed him in the box for several nights see if that eases his mind about the box. this has worked for me.

or while you are tending to other hounds put him in the box with a treat and see again if this, with time, makes him settle.

Boy! that's a visual definition of worrying yourself sick... ...poor puppy.

Looks as tho you'll have to desensitize him to the event of loading and riding in the box, but you'd think after almost 4 months of the roue-teen would have him adjusted. I'd say stay the course or give him to a boy that hunts around home and doesn't travel.
I've seen a few who never seemed to get over it and all the hounds in the box came out with a bath after the ride.

he looks just like my butkus male. dog on the far right in my signature picture. mine did the same exact thing as what yours is doing. put more dogs with him in the dog box he'll feel safe.

I have a 7 month old pup that's doing the same thing right now.
Sometimes I can just put him on the tailgate; and before you know it he looks like he just ate a bowl of slugs.
I just started putting him in a separate crate so the other dogs don't get a bath.
Right now he is the best pup I have out of the cross, doing a really good job.
I hope he grows out of it, I think he is really going to be a good one.
