I've got a hound that's got these scabs appearing on his ears and back. He's in a run with 4 others and none of them have any. You guys know what they are.

Penicillin is an antibiotic. Monistat is an anti-yeast / anti-fungal. If one works then the other probably isn't necessary. Looks fungal to me but that's just a guess.

Yes, except if it is yeast and also infected, you can cut the rate of heal time by using the antibiotics in combo. And it is really cheap anyways.

True, you can also use one when not needed and increase the microbiological tolerance to the medication making them less effective. I think the key word was "if" it is also infected. I know a fellar that can look at these things & know what to do instead of guessing. They call him a veterinarian, I mean if I'm re-wiring my house I'm not gonna get advice from a plumber.

I have deer ticks BAD in my area and my dogs are covered with those bald scabby spots. I use two different tick repellents on the hounds and they are still covered in ticks, I pick them off every day when I collar up and even the small deer ticks end up leaving scabs like that even though I try and get them off in a 24 hour period. I had 3 dogs with lymes this summer.

I had a coon hound have the same sores when I was young. The straw we were using had a fungus in it that effected him. Try using hay instead for his bedding.. It only effected him and not my other hounds.. I have also had a hound allergic to tick bites but the sores were not like ringworm which is what your pictures look like.. The tick sores appeared more like hot spots and were mostly in the spring.. good luck those look painful..

Northern Minnesota, worst year for deer ticks I have ever seen. between me and my hounds I must have picked near 40 today.

The purple Pylon cow tags are the best cure for the ticks and turkey mites I've seen. They will still get on your dogs but if you check them out the next day every tick or mite will be dead barley attached and drying out.We have both down here BAD...before I went to the tags I was dipping them before I put them up after running.I would still miss some and I know it couldn't have been good for them doing it over and over again.

Is the dog under a year old? Beat it is. It could be red mange (scabbies). I had that this summer in a young gyp. Tried Sulfadene, cedar chips, etc, nothing, so I gave her .3 cc of Ivermectin once a week for 4 weeks. Gone.
