Hey Fellow Beaglers, I have a young male (18 months olds) that has a big nose, an excellent mouth, and keeps the track between his feet, however, when being run with more than one other dog and the running breaks down, he will open out of place either going to another dog, or following one. If you solo him or run with just one other dog he doesn't do this to my knowledge.
I have bumped him a few times when running with my other 6 dogs and it seems to help. Do you think he will grow out of it? Should I get rid of him? Any thoughts and/or opinions as to what might help will be greatly appreciated. Happy Beagling!!! Thanks Todd

sounds as if he has a hard time dealing with the pressure of 6 dogs. If he was a pup (12 months & under) i would say give him a chance, but at 18 months he should be out of this. i personally would not deal with it, but thats just me. So the qeustion is...how much do you like him? that would be your call.

Thanks Bunny Buster. Actually I have given it serious thought especially since I have 2 females out of another litter only 2 days apart that do great. Probably the only reason I have kept him this long is because my son thinks something of him. Thank You for your feed back. Good Huntin' this year!!!

Are his pack mates naturally faster than him? Sounds like he is over competitive and chases the dogs once they get the lead.

Actually Newt, they are. He is a nose down track between his legs and 5 of the other 6 are head up track between their legs unless scent conditions are tuff then they are head down. Now that you mention this and cause me to start thinking, he mostly barks out of place on better scenting days when the others don't have to gear down. I have another 5 year old male that runs alot like him, but doesn't let the pressure get to him, he just adapts and picks up a lot of the checks.
Any thoughts if the pup will ever adapt or do you know of anything that will help? Thanks for getting me to start thinking!!!

i have a female that does that to if she is not run very much if i run her hard a few days in a row she quiets down

I suspect he is completive, doesn't have the wheels to get the front, and gets frustrated. He probably won't change.

I agree with newt.When having a pack of dogs you have to look over the bad with the good.So is this dog a good jump dog?Does it help out in running the rabbit at all?.If not.There are more dogs out there to take his place.If your son loves the dog.Make it in a pet.If that want work.Well I guess your have to keep hunting it.
